Just wanted to know what the mixing ratio is for Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salt. I used to use Kent and it was 1/2 cup of salt per gallon. Is this the same for Tropic-Marin. Thanks for any input.

Yeah, i've used that and other salts, but would never base sg on quantity--use a refractometer.

I agree. I am currently using TM-Reef Pro but regardless of salt brand, I never add to the system without double-checking the salinity first. On average its 1/2 cup of salt per gallon, though.

I've noticed this salt was cloudy when mixed for a half hour or so.

I too would suggest leaving to wait a little [overnight].

Spline9 - how do you like TM. I'll be filling my tank this week. I bought a bucket of TM for the initial fill and another bucket of TM Pro for water changes.

I've used red sea, seachem, I reckon Tropical marin pro is the best, quality salt, dissolves easy. I use RODI h20 and refracto to get it to 1.025

This is a rather simple sounding response. What I do is: have a RO water change tank and know exactly how much you will add to it to make 1.025. You can draw a line with a sharpie marker on the tank and have a container or scoop used to add the same each time. It really makes guessing the mix much easier. But of course with out a doubt, with out a doubt, this must be important since I repeated it. USE A REFRACTOMETER, THERE IS A REAL DIFFERENCE, BEFORE ADDING THE WATER TO YOUR SYSTEM.
I would also use a ca test prior to adding water also, Instant Ocean when I make it up needs some ca flakes, and baking soda. I think when I used tropic marin I got more algae on the glass of the tank from slightly more phosphate in the mix. This may not be true but I think there is more phosphate in TM.
Good luck!

I mix the regular Tropic-Marin like this....1 cup per 2.5 gallons. I fill 5 gal pales with ro/di and stir in 2 cups of Marin and it almost always gives me 1.026 (sometimes 1.025 or 27) on the refract.....make sure the water is up to room temp and you calibrate the refract properly....

I think Tropic Marin is by far the best salt. I use the Pro at home and the regular in all my tanks in my store. Although the price is more than some other salts, I find that I use much less additives to keep my calcium, alk and especially magnesium in the best range, so I save money there and come close to breaking even. GL!

rdnyva: I like it but then again, I dont worry myself with additives or levels with the other elements. This is why I use TM. From what I gather, it will cover my trace element needs (which arent demanding by any means) so I dont have to deal with supplementals. I havent had any problems yet.
