Troy's 270 Gallon plus Fishroom

Very true! Guess if the power goes off long enough to be a problem the battery is probably dead anyway. :)

I set it up running two of the mo40s

Thataboy.. plus ur light turns off every night does it not? Sooo unless ur planning on having an 8 hr power outage.... at that point the lights will be the least of your concerns
cheers

I was trying to get a good photo of my large Clownfish that I've had for 5-6 years now.... he is the devil in trying to get a picture of him as the moment I hit the button he ALWAYS moves... but I took this picture thinking it was trash and when I put it on my computer I noticed the very clear picture of my Sailfin Tang that I got from Carlos lurking in the background! Let me know what you think!

Nice pictures. How are those yellow head gobies? Do they jump at all? easy to keep?
cheers
rob

They are not jumping at all except when I was acclimating them one jumped out of the bucket I had them in. They are staying in the middle or bottom of the tank and not going to the top at all. The only issue is they sift sand all day and they cover up lots of coral I have to blow it off a lot. But they are keeping the sand up your white!

WOW very impressive and a lot of planning A+++++

Thanks!!!

Did have a loss tonight. I had a baby Clown fish that had this habit right when I feed to circle the top of the tank at full speed for like an hour... right below the water line. Well tonight I fed the fish, he started to circle and ran full speed right into one of my MP40s. Poor sucker probably wasn't looking and didn't realize he was about to hit it. Had so much momentum it carried him right on inside and tore him all up. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, he died instantly..fell right to the bottom of the tank. I pulled him out and put him in the frag tank for a bit to see if he might come to or start jumping around but he was dead as could be...

Oh man thats not good. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Latest update! Added a Turbo Twist UV sterilizer last night. I have a Duel stage GFO/Carbon Reactor from BRS as well as two BRS dosing pumps arriving Monday...

Here are some great pics that show what the 36" deep tank does in terms of giving added depth to the corals!

I love the deep tanks, (width) can't beat them. You are not running any type of bacteria and/or carbon source are you? I can't remember.
Cheers

Not really. I have a bag of carbon hanging in my filter sock right now but thats it. I do plan on installing a BRS Duel GFO/Carbon reactor when it arrives next week. The only issue I'm having is my Alk is low (at 7.0 right now but gets as low as 6.0) and my calcium is around 600+ probably due to the Alk being low. I have two BRS Dosing pumps that will arrive on Monday as well as their 2-part kit...

Im going to bet that its due to using an unbalanced slat mixture to start with. Not that i really want to bring this conversation up but which kind are you using now?

yup that salt has high cal 580 and mag 1650 and low alk for those levels - 8.5.

Easy fix, take a box of arm and hammer baking soda, put it on a cookie sheet in the oven at 400 for 1 hr, then once cooled, mix 2.25 cups of this into 1 gallon of RO/DI water mixing and adding heat until totally dissolved. then use this mix to dose your tank till your levels are stable and balanced. I would suggest adding this to all your fresh salt water mix going forward to help maintain proper balance.

Happy dosing
Cheers

very nice and clean setup, and that work out equipment look nice wouldn't mind having some of that equipment in my basement next to my fish room / big screen lol man cave indeed.

Ok.... no adds in terms of fish and coral the past couple weeks although everyone is doing really good and the rock is getting a lot of Coraline algae now..

On the equipment side... the past few days I've added two BRS Dosing pumps and began to dose Alk. My calcium remains between 570 and 600 pretty constantly but I've been having a hard time keeping the ALk above 7. Its at 7.5 right now and I'm targeting 9.0 with the dosing. I've got it set for dosing 21 ML between midnight and 3am... with 7 minutes of dosing each hour for 3 hours.

I've also added a UV Sterilizer (Turbo Twist) and just finished up installing a BRS Duel reactor for GFO and Carbon this morning..

Here are some pics...
