True vs False Percs

is there an eay way to visually identify the difference between an A. Occellaris and an A. Percula, besides the fact that the Perc has more black on it? I purchased two "Occellaris" about three years ago and recently one died. after some thought, I wondered if they both were Occellaris or if possibly the surviving clown is a Perc. I'm considering acquiring another clown and I want to make sure to pair them up. I'd like to get them to spawn at least ONCE! Never happened in the 3 years I had them together, which makes me question their "compatibility" even further

even if you do get one, and they are diff. species, they can still live together, and are compatiable,

they are even able to hybridize, but if that does happen, i do suggest that you keep them for your self, Being a African Cichlid Fianatic, Cross Hybridization is highly frowned upon, Not sure how its looked upon in the SW community, but I wouldn't advise keeping them..Just because I believe in the Purity of my specimines. Talk to other cichlid keepers, they'd tell you the same thing

just my opinion though, But Eithor its a perc with an Ocell, they would be just fine toghether,

The differences between the two are the amount of Spinal Bones in the Dorsal Fin, not sure how many, look in to it..

The most commonly sold one is the Ocelllaris, Usually the Perc has ALOT more black in it, especially in the actual body of the fish. The Ocellaris, not so much, but it depends on the fish.

I did chiclids for a long while and from what I read and saw about half of the species today are a direct result of hybridizing.
