Trueblackperculas 120cube with Mitras Lx6100Hv

Looking good bro!!

Thanks its been a long road to recover :) But i think I have all the key ingredients to accomplish my goal in creating a sps dominated reef tank. all that is left this week to do is start making Pappone again now that the copperband buttlerfly has almost comltey eaten all the aptasia anemones. This is the only reason i stoped feeding pappone was because it was also feed them and they were getting way out of control.
I should have some updated pictures this weekend to show everyone. I must admit now that i have agood project on My mitras my Sps are really starting to glow.
Just wante to say i lowered the intensity and my Sps look better then ever before. I am now at 67% on higg intensity and probally will never get past 80% at this rate. I have three nice size colonies almost on the sand bed and they have some of the best colors in the tank LOL ya just gottat love the maricultured pieces as they sure know how to light up a tank :lolspin:

Now lets hope I didnt introduce any AEFW as many people have told me that mariculterd pieces are know to have them and eggs. I hope not and I did treat them and examined them prior to putting them in the system.

Hi all

I just wanted to post a full tank shot to track my progress. Its really funny how little the tank looks in pictures LOL Also I started to feed Pappone again but only for a short while until i start using the modified formula I have. I found this from a youtub video that was posted in french and had some help translating it. I will be making this in two weeks as I need to get a few ingredients I don't have on hand or can buy locally. so once everything comes in I will post results and pics.

Also I wanted to let everyone know that all the maricultured pieces are doing really good and have started to color up really nice. I think most people think they need lots of light and I now know this is not the case as I have my fixture at 65% I have it set to be raised 1% a week until I get to where I want to be. But I will let the SPS colors tell me when to stop.

In addition the prodibio additives i have been adding is really starting to work as a carbon source. Almost all the algae is almost gone and the sps are really doing well. I dose biodigest, bioptim, iodi, stroonit+ and was also dosing reefbooster but ran out. I used this in place of the pappone but now with the new pappone recipe i have that incorporate it I think it will be better.

5 Clams
5 mussels
5 oysters
5 shrimp or (prawns) uncooked RAW no tails or shells
1 Reef booster from prodibio
1 anchovies its very rich in omega 3
Fauna Marin Ultra LPS Grow & Color Medium/Regular Pellet
Half a bag of Reef pearls 40 grams or 1.41 size 5-200 MICRONS
spirulina flake powder 10 g of Red Algae (Palmaria palmata; Bisck uses Julian Sprung's brand)and/or 10 g of Spirulina, 10 g of Nori (spirulina is what Bisck prefers)
250 g of fish eggs roe
2 teaspoon of Cyclop-eeze
250 g of mysis shrimp
250 g Artemia newly hatched brine shrimp
2 ml of vodka 80 proof clear not flavored
1 teaspoon sugar or 4 grams

200 mls of RO/DI WATER

Mixing in a blender : Methods: Make SURE that all ingredients are the freshest possible and DO NOT use frozen foods (unless it is impossible for you). Make sure everything "live" is rinsed and cleaned before putting it into the blender. Put all the ingredients into the blender and blend for 5 min, wait 2 min for it to cool, 5 more min blending, 2 min of waiting again, then finally another 5 min of blending (the pausing is so that the solution doesn't get too hot and "cook" from the heat of the blender/blades). Pour into cube forms (approx 10 mL each).
Place in freezer or small cubes and feed up to two times a week 5 to 10 ml for every 200 liters or for every 52.83 gallons of water volume.

That's one serious recipe..
Tank is looking good!

Thanks reefmutt

I use the normal recipie from 2007 and it works great. The one one looks to be amazing and can't wait to start trying it. The maricultured pieces are doing well and seem to have good color and response to the feedings. I am going a little over board with the food as I have already dosed 15ml of food over the past four days. But everything seems to be ok as my po4 and nitrate are still very low. I think the carbon dosing of Biodigest and prodibio seem to be working really well. Not to mention that the pappone has sugar in it so that helps as well.

Cool link, thanks. Looks like a pretty big farm.
I wonder what the n and p is in the water around that farm..
Lots of algea.. Not necessarily a bad thing- corals look great..

thats a great question and when I pick up mynext order I will try and pick out a bag with the least amount of decay in the bag. I will test it and post results i dont know if it will be a=of any value but its worth a shot.

Also I must let othres no that either my light fixture is insanly bright or these pieces really dont need intense lighting like I once thought and read about. They are coloring up very nicly and the ones with the better colors are on the bottom of the tank. My tank demensions are 30 x30 x 31 deep and the light fixture is either 8" or 9" above the water line. Also I really now beileve that the mitras led cluster has the corrcet colors in there clusters this is why I ma getting amazing colors and growth.

Remeber my light fixture has been turned down to an intensity of 65% and I am up to 67% and I am raisnign it 1% every seven days to acclimate them.

But I think I am going to max out at between 70% and 75% as they look amazing.

I should have some new pictures in 20 days as I said I would post pic

Ill be interested to see the new shots.
Good idea on the 1% light increases..
Forgot..are you in he or ho mode?

How are your corals looking?

They are doing ok with the exception of two of them but they are still alive. Some have started to grow and get deeper colors. I will admit they do not have the same colors when I got them but those colors are not the real colors anyways. I will post a picture or two in 12 days as promised.
Michael

Ok so as promised for better or worse I told everyone I would post pictures. I must admit that the matriculated pieces some have gotten better and some are still getting adjusted to my system. But I am completely confident that in time they will all be outstanding sps colonies. If you have the opportunity to purchase maricultured pieces don’t even hesitate as they are exactly what all the name brand SPS are without all the high pricing. Also as of today there have been no Algae problems at all from the plugs and I have not seen any AEFW or red bugs.

Also some of the pieces require less light and some just need what we normally provide. I will say that I have two of the same pieces and placed one on the bottom and one higher up. The one that is browning out is on the bottom of the tank sand the second is getting a nice purple color to it but it’s not fully there yet, but when it does I will post pictures . I did this deliberately to see if it needed more light or less. So I now know that this piece needs to be move up closer to the second piece that is the same.

Also I have two green stags that look to be the same but are not and from the pictures below one requires less light as you can see its getting really nice green color with blue tips and the other that was next to it started to bleach out. So I raised the bleached out one as close as possible to the light fixture and as you can see it’s starting to come around.
I can’t wait to get more of these pieces as I should have a full blown reef tank in a few more months LOL
I will post another update in 30 days’ time to show what has been going on.
Enjoy
Michael

Sorry for the bad IPHONE pictures will try to take some pictures with more blue so that you can see the reall colors of them. I shot them under mostly white light to show growth.

So pretty low... I Always kept mine low as well- gets nice rich dark colours. I hear that they will lighten and get cream coloured in the body when up higher.. Never tried it though..

I can cut a drag and try it if you like to test that theory. Lol but mine is low but my fixture puts out crazy amounts of par. So even though it's low and off to the right my intensity right now is set to 69%.
I think I will drag it anyways just to see.

I just wanted to share a top daown picture from last night at about 6:45 pm just before it start ramping up to the more bluer spectrium. Did I already say How much I love my mitras lx 6100 Hv?
