Trying a school of firefish

Well about 3 months ago I thought it would be cool to have a school of 15 firefish in my 300 gallon reef well long story short I have 4 left they slowly wiped each other out and to make matters worse I figured worse case I would get a pair out it but not the remaining ones still fight so lesson learned..only other fish I have in there is 4 flame wrasses 2 bangaii and 3 blue eye cardinals that could care less about them

yea firefish are kind of strange in a way they are so timid towards other fish but to their own kind they keep bossing each other around. They do well as a pair or singly imo.

I had 3 in Qt a long while back. 2 killed one. Then the 2 remaining started fighting, and then I had one. The last one found a 1/2 gap in my netting. I may get 1 someday... Maybe

Well i hope i dont jinx myself then ive had three purples in my tank for about 8 months now, i see the two bigger ones chase the smallest one occasionally but nothing excessive yet.

I had the same idea when I started stocking my 150. I bought 7 and within three months I was down to 1. That ONE is still going strong though.

My first reaction was that this was predictable. However, I think it's important to share our less successful experiences in trying something against conventional wisdom, maybe more important than sharing successes. It's understandably less common to do so.

So, quite sincerely, thanks for posting this.

yea that would have been a sweet looking school... after spending time working in saltwater aquariums iv found that keeping them only in pairs and not schools is what works best for these guys.... if you want alot of color, look into the helfrichi firefish.... a pair of those guys is a lot of color

+100000000!

Sorry about your losses. Any chance you have a picture of all fifteen in the tank? It'd be cool to see...if just for a second. :o
