Trying out the new NYOS Quantum 160 skimmer

Let's see what this thing can do. It's filling the shoes off a vertex omega 180i

Build quality looks really nice. Not as heavy duty as the vertex but top notch for sure.

they rate the 160 model for up to a 265

they dont list the stock level recommended at 265 though.

i will say so far it's the easiest skimmer to dial in i've ever used. the controls are all easy to reach and fine adjustments are really easy to make.

this is a after 1 day

Glad to hear it's working well for you.
I just ordered mine last night.
May I ask what size tank you're using it on?

We generally use vertex and skimz on all our setups , but I may have found another option with this guy. Price is comparable to those brands and parts/support will be good too. I think Ecotech may be the master us distributor

very nice skimmer
Well built and easy to tune
My display is a 180
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this skimmer won't be too small for my setup
We'll see

Flyfisher,

It's been a little while since your last post, how is the skimmer working?

I just received my new NYOS 160, and will be putting it in the sum tomorrow. Can you give me any setup advice (Water Level inside the skimmer, etc.)?

Thank you for your help!

Looking at these Nyos skimmers myself having been set on a Vertex for a while but looking for a 'real world' review. I love to here how it is working out for you.

Hey guys... do you think the quantum 160 would adequately handle my 210 (approximately 260 gallons total system volume)? I'm trying to decide between the quantum 160 or a aquamaxx Cone S Q -3. I have a 19" deep sump due to my refugium chamber, so overhead space is limited given I have to place the skimmer on a stand to achieve the correct operating depth of 8-9". These two skimmers share a shorter overall height and would fit without any sump mods. I'm a little worried the nyos can't realistically handle a moderate to heavy bioload on 260 gallons. I'd love your thoughts since many of you own the Nyos!
