I have a Klein butterfly in quarantine and the fish is doing great, swimming around eating like there is no tomorrow. Its been in quarantine for two weeks and i all of a sudden i see very faint white spots on fins (only in the clear section of fin) there are no spots anywhere else on the fish. I figured i would start a hypo on the tank but the a few hours later after a water change they were gone. I've had ICH in my display a while ago which is why i quarantine everything now but this just didn't look like the ICH that took down all my fish at one point. I read somewhere that there is some other ailment that is not a life threatening problem and also not contagious it started with lym..... i dont remember the full word. does anyone out there know what im talking about lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Lymphocystis. It will not look like ich, however, and will not disappear in a short period of time.

but these were faint spots not raised and no where else i tried to takes pics but nothings there anymore.

Ed,

Can you get a decent picture?

Ich usually start's on the fins and comes and goes like that from day to night

Sorry, but this completely wrong on both counts. Ich usually starts in the gills where us humans can't see it. The idea of of starting on the fins is simply because that is often the first place the average person can see it...not because it started on the fins. As for coming and going day to night, simply doesn't happen that fast. If your seeing such daily day to night changes, it's something other than ich.

i tried to get pic but like i said they are gone.... these were almost transparent and only in the clear part of fins... fish is eating anything i throw at it lol (mysis, Pellets, Flake) i try to vary up diet... no flashing, Heavy breathing, or scratching. I just hope it wasnt ich i have battled that twice only to have to leave tank fallow and start over with fish. i will try to see if they are back at all and take a good pic if i can... could it have been something to do with my chemistry in the quarantine tank ? i am puzzled... at this point i have been lowering salinity over the last few days and now i am at 1.015 in anticipation of doing a hypo since i have tried copper power once and everything in quarantine perished...

also i forgot to mention PH was low in the 7.2 range and i brought it back slowly to 8.4 using sodium bicarbonate ... couls this have an effect of fins? and would it disappear so fast if it was the low PH. Ammonia 0, nitrates 0, nitrites 0.

7.2 is definately a problem for marine fish, though I doubt it would show as spots. Usually shows as stress, general poor health, and sometimes "mysterious" death.

The ginger suggestion is bad advice. Crtocaryon irritans(marine ich) usually starts in the gills or other soft tissue.

Sometimes there's just debris on the fins. Whenever I see spots, I just wait a few hours, check again, and then repeat one more time before I freak out.
