Tube Anemone addiction

Getting a second nem this Saturday, and was wondering how close they can be placed to other tube nems, if they touch will they sting/kill each other or will they not bother each other?

Thanks

Mine are touching each other, and their tentacles are intertwined. Doesn't bother any of them, and it looks really cool too.

Mine were touching at one point, but the one has moved so they aren't any longer. Never had a problem when they did touch though.

Help,

I got a tube anemone and when I opened the bag the nem was separate from the tube. I acclimated and such as usual thinking maybe it just shed it and would rebuild it in the tank. I put it in buried it a little and let it be. It opened up and I was thinking it would be fine. Looked later and it had unburied some and moved, now its sitting, open, on top of the sand in a corner, will it die or anything I can do to fix it?

Just leave it be. It will find a spot and dig in. It is not unusual for them to
to move around. You can however feed it. That might help it stay put. You experience is not unusual.

I was mainly concerned for it coming out of it's tube. I've had coco worms come out and that usually means death for them so was wondering if it was similar.

Thanks!

No it's different. Half of mine arrived out of it's tube. They rebuild them quickly

I'm thinking of having several of these guys in my 150G. I will be housing alot of small gobies however, is this just a disaster waiting to happen?

Probably, although mine have never taken a fish. The fish seem to stay away. I would be worried about a little goby stumbling into it. If it does it would be a goner for sure.

My pink spot goby all of a sudden decided to move across the tank & has taken up residence under a piece of partially buried shelf rock about 4 inches from my tube nem. Makes me a little nervous but so far it stay pretty situationally aware and away from the nem. I've tried twice to push it away and fill in the hole, which he promptly redigs & moves back in, so I guess he wants to stay.

Probably feels safe with him overhead. What better protection is there. Although, live by the sword.....

So have any of you had a problem losing fish to these guys?:thumbdown

Would like to try them with a small group of ventralis anthias in a shallow 3 x 2. The anthias chase food in the water column...guess I am trying to find out how likely it would be that one would land in the nem during all the excitement????

Finally, a number of you have said the anemone, when open, is about 8".... is that the maximum length of the tentacles or is that the diameter of the crown?

thanks for your time!

I never have and I have had one for several years on and off. I have seen one sting a fish that swam into it but that was at a store and they were chasing the fish. The fish eating is largely a myth but like any anemone, if a sick or injured fish wondered into it I'm sure he would become dinner. I have 3 bartletts and have never had a problem. I love those anthias! Make sure you start a thread, please!!!!

8 inches it the tentacles. The crown is about an inch and a half.

Agree with slapshot. I now have 6 of them in a garden, and never seen a fish get eaten or caught. If a fish swims into it, they get stung and swim away...like a bee sting for us. They wont eat fish. And the tenacles are that long, not the crown. Super hardy creatures that are very colorful.

Hen, how's that blue one of yours doing? Your garden inspires me. I need a blue one now to complete my garden:
