Tunze 235/2 Skimmer

I bought a used reef setup with a Tunze 235/2 skimmer. While resetting up the system, I cleaned the skimmer and have not yet (8 weeks) been able to adjust the skimmer so as to get any significant foam. The tank has 250 Lbs LR, 1-4" Yellow Tang and 2-Damsels. The water level at the skimmer is set the the wave/water line on the clean riser tube and the air volume is set by tuning the air valve off and then backing it off by 3 turns. Everything is set up according to the manual. I was thinking that I wasn't getting any foam due to the setup being new, but I don't believe that is the case anymore. I have tried increasing the air flow to see if it would produce more foam and that hasn't worked. Is it possible that the air flow is set too high and that the foam is not getting a chance to form? This is my first saltwater setup so I am new to adjusting skimmers to obtain the optimum foam. Also, once the foam is in the cup, should it turn to water or stay a foam?

It is possible to have too much air. I would go with 2.5 turns and make sure you do 2 full turns and not half turns. Outside of that the venturi could be dirty and you should soak it in vinegar after dissassembling it. It sounds like you actually have a 230/2 as the 235 usually had no wavy line and the riser is a solid brown plastic box. They are the same except for how they are installed. If that doesn't fix it I can have a look at it and restore it to like new.

It is currently set at 3 full turns. It is a 235/2 as originally stated (says 235/2 on the top of the pump). The guy I bought the setup from had a spare riser that is clear and has the wavy line and I tried putting that on it to see if it helped, to no avail. The skimmer was totally cleaned when I bought it, so I don't think it is dirty. The venturri is the part that sucks in the air, correct? If so, it is totally clean and you can feel the air getting sucked in from the end when removed from the cylinder.

The venturi is at the base of the pump wear the water exits, it is a two piece nozzle, one is whit and one is brown, it can still work but make bigger bubbles if dirty. 235.02 is the model number for the pump, I still would say it is a 230/2 based on your description. Do you have a photo? There are so many different models and many with the same model number that it is hard to say what is wrong, they all had there quirks and if you give me a picture I can probably figure it out.

No I don't have a picture at this time. I'll take a look at the venturri and soak it in vinegar tonight and see what happens. How many gallons is the 230/2 rated for?
