Tunze 6025 magnets

Hi Roger,

I have bought a second hand Tunze 6025 nanostream pump, which is almost new. I have two questions about its magnets, if I may.

First, the magnets seem to be exposed. I can see two pieces of magnets in each magnet holder. My old Tunze 6055s' magnets are concealed. Is this a new design? Are the magnets likely to leach any harmful substances when exposed to salt water?

Second, one of the magnets (the outside one) seems to be bigger (70 mm) than the one attached to the silence clamp (50 mm). Are the magnets not supposed to be of the same dimension? Because of this, the smaller magnet is not firmly attached to the glass even though it does not seem to be affecting its operation). What size magnets are supplied with new 6025s?

Thanks in anticipation

EDIT: I believe I have found the answer to my own questions. It is rather annoying that I am going to have to buy another set of magnets of the right size as I do not like the size of the outer magnet. If I bought the old style smaller diameter magnets, would they be compatible with the new one (i.e. the new style magnet inside and the old one outside), or would I have to use two of the old style magnets?

Yes, this is the magnet holder we have used since 2012, they are ferrite which is a ceramic, it is what impeller magnets are usually made of and it does not corrode. Because they are weaker the outside one is larger to compensate and keep a higher strength. In 2009 China nationalized production of Rare Earth Magnets, they are the source for 98% of this material, we had little other options, either raise the price dramatically or switch, the price of the magnets at its high in 2010 was a 600% increase in cost. It has come down but is still triple what they used to cost. The easiest solution is to replace the outside magnet only with part 6025.501, this will also increase the strength of the magnet holder.
