Im having a few issues with my power heads.. first one is they start backwards almost everytime they turn on which i can fix by putting my hand infront of the outlet and secondly the clicking noise they make when they start up is quite loud. the second thing is both powerheads props have two plastic disks on the bottom that have came loose from the body, is this normal?

The clicking is normal at startup, and is the propeller correcting its rotation. How old are these, are the tips of or the propeller damaged or chewed up?.. often spinning backwards is a damaged propeller or dirty shaft or when new there is lubrication from dry testing that can cause it. Are you running these on a wavemaker? The disk you refer to is it the part that was glued to the magnet?... if so while not normal I do not think it would cause rotation issues.

they are a few years old now, im not running them on a wavemaker but do have them hooked to an apex where i switch between the two power heads hourly.. but since doing this i've noticed that sometimes they will run backwards for the whole hour.. so thats an issue for me.. i took them all apart and cleaned them like new and thats when i noticed the disk not attached to the magnet bottom anymore.

My guess is worn impellers if the shaft and the center hole in the impellers are clean and replacing them would fix the direction issue. But we can let Roger chime in on Monday for a verdict.

The shaft must be permanently fixed in the pump, it should not come out, if it does, the pump is toast. The disk should stay fixed on the base of the shaft, older ones had two disks, new ones use one thicker disk. If the shaft is OK, then a disk and impeller should solve the problem.
