Tunze 6025 Spins in Reverse Direction

Roger, I started a new thread for this topic. The pump still spins the propeller backawards at startup about 20% of the time on one pump and 70% on the other. It spits sand all over the place when going in reverse. The pump also seems to strong for this tank. The pump when blowig foward will blow a light top layer of sand around the tank.

Here are the pictures you requested.

The Tunze is not in this photo. I had it located in the rear left of the tank where the current powerhead is located.

Scott,

Could you try a few things? In general when the pumps take longer to reverse that a few seconds the fit is very tight or the voltage is low. Running the pumps continuously for a few days should loosen the fit to alleviate the tight fit issue. Try running one of them witha gentle upward angle, about 5 degrees. Try aiming it at the filter unit to disperse the flow. Run it for a few days unintterrupted.

Am I right in thinking it is ok to block some of the intake openings to lower the flow? Maybe you could make some sort of shroud to cover the lower openings. This would lower your flow a bit, and block some of the downward blow back you get at start up. Of course, this could increase the upward blowback, so you may get water spewing out you tank, or on your lights.

Just a thought.

I don't have a ton of experience with the nano-streams (just got my 6025s, waiting on my 6045s), but I do have lots of experience with MJ mods... restricting the intake will drastically increase the chances that the pump will chatter or spin the wrong direction.

I am sure this isn't tunze approved but a much better way to reduce the flow from a propeller pump is to cut down the prop as evenly as you can with scissors (close is good enough, this won't cause them to vibrate if you are a bit off). I have made a ton of mj mods and the nano-streams are pretty much the same thing in a much slicker looking package with a very nice mount.
