Tunze 6045 vs. K4

I need to add some flow to my 90 gallon reef tank. I have suvived with the pump in my Sump for a year, and with the mix of hard and soft corals I have, it is not enough.

I have a fairly heavy bio-load on the tank, with soon to be 20 fish, about 90 invertebrates and 7 varieties of coral both hard and soft.

i have read about 30 differnt threads debating Tunze and Koralia, as well as viewing both products on YouTube.

Here's my question: Do I need 1 T4 or 2?

It seems like everyone buys this type of circulation pump in pairs, could 2 overpower some of my smaller fish?

I like the looks of the 6045 a lot more. I've got one with a Seio 620 in my 65g. I like the flow from the Tunze much better. Start with one, you can always add one later. I'm probably going to replace the Seio with a 6055 later in the year.

If you have any problems with the Tunze, the customer service you get from Roger on the Tunze forum is unmatched in the industry (in my opinion).

I have a 90 with two 6045's and love them. I did just get a 6025 and modded it (a 5 minute job, simply cutting with a razor an inner shroud on the outer cowling) and found a great increase in flow. I would get the 6025's for half the price and modify them for almost the same flow. The footprint/size of the tunze is great, and the customer service is top notch.

I liked the wide flow from the K4, but its to wide for my 125g tank and blows the sand everywhere. That sucks for a DSB. I don't have any tunze's but i prefer my MJmod at 1600gph to the k4, lots of flow and not as wide.....and much smaller as well. I'm going to get rid of the k4 soon i think.

If you do plan to mod the nano i would just get the 6025. They put out about the same flow when modded.

Thanks Smoker...I am now convinced. I am going with 2 6025's in my 90 gallon and will mod them when i get them.

The tunze on a ninety is a much better choice, the K4 IS HUGE. I have both the 6045 and 6025, I would only buy 6025 and do the mod unless you want to be able to alter the flow, 6055

I have two 6045's and a 6055 in my 90. I like the looks of the tunze. They are sleek and don't take up alot of room. They work in my tank

One other thing, be really carefull when placing the pumps on the magnet mount. It is really easy to break the clips.....

Your going to need alot more flow than the 6045s. They are only good for small tanks as they flow might reach out 18'' at the Max. I would look into getting a 6060 or two.

6060 are 2 bulky for what i am trying to do. I definitely thought about it. I think the 2 6025's mod for 1100 gph should be a good start that would put me well above the 15X barrier for the mixed reef set up i have. If i need more, i can upgrade later.

Smoker....I'm doing the matth right on this aren't I. 2 circ pumps at 1100 gph + my recirc pump at about 900 ish, in a 90 gallon should be well above 15X......Correct.

These pumps modded put out over 1300gph but i will use 1250 to be safe.

so you got: 2x 6025 modded

1250 x 2 = 2500 gph + 900 gph

3400 gph /90 gals = 37.7x

1x 6025 modded

1250 +900 = 2150 /90 = 23.8x

Wouldnt your tank volume be less because the rock takes up volume?
I have 2 modded 6025s and a Sure Flow MJ1200. The 6025s are great. But the Sure Flow is definitely a stronger flow. Still nice and wide, but noticeably stronger.
