Tunze 6060 on timer....

Hi, I am wanting to get a few Tunze 6060's for my 6ft Freshwater tanks.....both are housing Tropheus from Lake Tanganyika.

I have about 20x turnover rate going through the tanks now but wante to add a few Tunze's for the "wave/surf" effect. I have been reading up on the models I am interested in but I just wanted to clarify with the man himself.....

...From what I have read it is only advisable to turn the pumps on/off once an hour up to 24x a day, so if I were to have these pumps on a std. timer to turn on/off once a day would that be ok and not have any ill effects on the pump?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

What type of Tanganyikans? I might suggest a 6080 in each tank but it really depends, Frontosa and Ventralis would probably like that, shell dwellers and julis, maybe not so much.

I would get a 6080, the higher flow will help with the aggression and keeping the higher pH, they won't mind it one bit.

Well I have quite a bit of flow going through the tank already and I have someone selling me the two 6060's really cheap. The flow through my tank right now is about 20x and I don't have aggression problems since I have large colonies of 35+ as well as a good sex ratio.

I seriously thought about the 6080's but the cost right now is the main determining factor.

Do you think the 6060 will at least send a surge through the tank? At least enough to keep the detritus circulating with the flow of the tunze?

Installed them in my tanks and have to say that the flow isn't super strong throughout the tank but it does accomplish what I wanted them to!

Thanks for answering all my questions!
