Tunze 6100 sped control

Before my 7025 arrived, I had the 6100 running at a speed I set using the speed control with a small screwdriver. Now that it is attached to the multicontroller, it will ignore the manual speed setting, right? Or will it put out a fraction of the total power based on that setting? According to the controller, when the pumps pulse they put out 100%.

Also, you probably already answered this a million times but...

I have 2 6100s in my 240g SPS tank and wanted to know if there is an "ideal" setting for SPS.

Thanks again,

Joel

When you connect a controller you want to return the driver to fll power, otherwise damage to the pump or controller could occur from a lack of sufficient power to keep everything running. I would use one of the Interval modes, whichever one works best for you and pulse the pumps form 30-100% with one in each back corner aimed toward front center.

Roger,

So, is Joel correct in that the speed reductions are additive? If you reduce the speed on the pump controller by 50% (with a screw driver), then reduce the speed on a single/multicontroller by 50% you've basically reduced the speed by 75%.

Then, if I understand you correctly you should keep the max speed on the motor controller and only use the speed controller on the single/multicontroller otherwise, the lack of power to the controller/pump might damage somthing. Could you be more specific on what might be damaged?

It is additive but this is not recommended and voids the warranty because you can reduce the power availability to the point the pump alarm and other functions cannot operate. Also, if the pump runs slower than the controller is designed to allow the brake shoes drag and they will be broken in time.

Roger - Thanks again for the detailed and quick response.

I've set the speed setting on the motor controller back to max and only use the multicontroller to control speed.

PS I reread the motor and multicontroller manuals and I can't find where it recommends against changing the motor speed if a single/multicontroller is used. If it is not in the manual Tunze may want to consider adding said language; especially, if not doing so voids any or all of the warrentee.

It is in their, I will try to find it, because I have read it before that is where I learned about it.

well, I guess I've voided my warranty then. I thought that once the 6100 was attached to the controller it simply bypassed the manual control. Now I have the manual set to 100%.

Nah Joel, in the short term it isn''t a big deal, that only comes into play if we see one run long term and fouled up and then the alarm couldn't operate, you are fine.
