Tunze 7096 controller not recognized and Windows 2000

Just got the 7096. Program installed on Windows 2000 without a problem but the controller is not found by the program.

I tried shutting down and restarting twice to no avail. Tried to add new hardware and nothing was recognized.

Is there a driver somewhere that I can download or should I try a shorter USB cable?

THe unit is powered up when connected to my computer.

Thanks in advance.

Are you running SP4? That OS is kind of old and I would imagine that the PC is as well. You can start by verifying your service pack level and try running this one if you're not up to SP4. If your PC is USB v1.1, you would need to buy a new USB card in order to get up to the newer v2.0 version.

Thanks for the post

Yes that pc is super old it's an IBM thinkpad 570e laptop

I have a current mac as my other computer

I also have windows xp home edition so maybe I should install that on my mac and see if it works?

I should also mention that the first time I plugged it into the usb it noticed it as new hardware but was still looking for a driver

Don't know if that sheds light on anything

How do other usb devices(camera, printer, etc) respond when plugged into the Win2k PC?
I received my 7096 this week and haven't plugged her in yet. I plan to use it with my Lenovo laptop running Win7. I'm setting up my 90RR this w/e.

:bum:

Thanks

Good luck with your setup. I'm probably not too far from you so if you ever need help with the setup LMK

That's a good question. I really don't use that laptop that often so I never had the need to plug anything else in but it is worth looking into to see if those devices are recognized

Try downloading the latest controller program from Tunze.com, the time delay for windows to contact the controller has been lengthened. FWIW, a mac version is in the works, but I have had flawless results using VMWare on an IMAC running Vista.

Roger: Thanks but which version is current? The disk that came with the program was Version 1.0.10.0. I checked the web site but this is also the same version listed in the download section

Is there a more recent version and can you point me to the link?

They didn't update the version number, but the one on the web has a longer delay, at least it should, I was told yesterday this is the new updated version.

OK I will download that program......Thanks again for your help....If not I will install Windows XP on my mac...

Downloaded the new executable and also upgraded to SP4 for Windows 2000. Still doesnt work

Last resort is trying the shorter USB cable...or installing Windows XP Home edition on my mac

OK need direction on what to try first for this laptop... Was thinking of installing windows xp on my mac as a last resort but wanted to try to get the old clunker of a laptop useful again :)

So should a) get a usb 2.0 card for it? I have usb 1.1
b) get a shorter usb cable?

By the way the usb recognized my thumb drive without a hitch so I'm thinking the shorter cable might be the cheaper alternative and first try.

If your Thinkpad has the 320mb(it's max), I would install XP on that. It won't be lightning fast but it will certainly work for the 7096,surfing the net, etc. I have an old IBM 600x at home that I no longer use and I will check tonight to see how the 7096 works with the v1.1USB

I don't have enough disk space on the laptop to install xp but can I wipe out windows 2000?

I'll report back tomorrow if the shorter USB works

Ok....since I have windows 2000 I can't upgrade to
Xp home edition

I am going to get windows xp pro since my employer has a home use program with microsoft so I can get it cheaplu but will try the short USB cable

Disk space issue was related to not having enough to create a separate partition

I suspect the USB 1.1 could be the culprit. I had an older laptop that gave similar problems recognizing a RK controller. Even after upgrading the OS you might still have trouble if the hardware is not USB 2.

Just tried it via usb v1.1 and it works fine. You may want to reload the 7096 software and or USB drivers for win2k. If you want, I can send you a 570e harddrive w/ XP loaded on it. The HD swap takes 2 minutes.
