Hi Roger...i had the tunze 9010 it was a great skimmer i gave thay away n i bought this 9011 using it sump mode with standpipe water is coming out of it fine....wel at first the pump was making huge noises and defective so the lfs replace the pump....now it looks lkke its running fine....been running for over a day now no skimmate and no foam like the 9010 just bubbles n water...is something else wrong?

That is correct, if water is exiting the standpipe as it should (slow trickle) the water level variation will have no effect.

My best guesses would be one of the following-

1) The venturi nozzle broke in shipping, I have some images I can email to you for comparison, just PM me an email address.

2) The airline is kinked or pinched between the pump and body.

3) The water is not exiting the stand pipe so something is misassembled.

4) Remote possibility, some early pumps from 2009/2010 had a defect where the impeller spun backwards. Unlike the 9010 which had a mechanical system, the 9011 pump has an electronic system to get the pump spinning the right way and in early pumps the detection system could be installed incorrectly.

It doesnt let me pm you because i have less then 10 posts....but the pump had problem and it was exvhanged the next day i got it....now its coming out the standpipe with microbubbles and i set yhe blue screw to the lip of the skimmer....but when i let it run and i take out the cup the foam isnt as my 9010 it barely foams....but my question is this normal of my 4th day running my skimmer....

If it is an established tank you should start to see the first of a foam head develop after 3 days and it should be running optimally after 2 weeks. If the tank is new as well, this will be considerably longer, usually about double.

My email is Tunze at sbcglobal dot net

I restarted my tank with my cycle water but different live rock anyway....u said u will send me some pics for something broken? Because it doesnt let me pm u

Yes, but I would need your email, if you will email me, I posted the email in the last reply, I can get you those pics.

Ok i emailed u does it matter my drain pipe is right next to the skimmer? Which also creates bubbles....i read in the manual skimmer is suppose to be near quiet movement but does it really matter?

That is not ideal, however I do think a lot of this is just that the tank is fairly new, while it may have the old water, their was likely a lot of suspended sediment early on and this does impeded skimming a great deal, it may still be doing so if it is caked up in the skimmer. If the flow by the skimmer is high or the drain bubbles vigorously, both would be a further impediment to skimming. The 9011 pump is not so much stronger as it is more efficient, largely due to the larger airline, beyond any doubt it takes in more air and should be slightly better than a 9010 if no parts are broken and it is installed properly.

Roger i think i found the problem....im running my tunze 9010 and 9011 and the tunze 9010 instantly made foam and skimming great.....the screw to control the air on my 9010 is tight meaning every little adjustment makes a big difference of the bubbles and the level of the foam...9011 screw is so loose it doesnt make that much of a difference its really loose im very upset because i buy tunze products and thinking yhe 9011 would be an upgrade and how these small mistakes can be made its very upsrtting first my pump was defective now this.....the 9011 skimmed abit of green today but the screw is so loose wen u spin it

If this is the cause, then a wrap of teflon tape on the screw would solve it temporarily and be a way to verify this is the culprit. I am skeptical because it should then skim very wet since you would have higher air flow, though a very high air flow can tear up a developing foam head. I see this occasionally on the 9002 but have never encountered this on the bigger models. What country are you in? I am sorry you are having these problems but these are completely assembled by hand, the threads are cut by hand with a tap and occasionally these things do happen, but we can get it resolved.

How is the 9011 better then 9010 exactly? Only reason i upgraded is becayse my 9010 pump makes knocking noises....is there anything u can do to fix that it comes and goes...im in canada and yes the screw is way loose for the 9011 and the 9010 if i loosen th3 bubbl3s rises higher and higher for the 9011 it just goes from mist to bubbles....

The pumps in theory should be identical in performance, the main difference is the 9011 has a larger diameter airline and takes in more air, besides that it includes a magnet holder and the e-jet pump is quieter. It would have to be determined whether the screw is damaged and the culprit or the hole was tapped oversized or stripped. I would try the screw from the 9010 and get the replacement part you need from Xenia or your dealer.

Its not the screw i checked wit another screw 9010....its the body...even where u put the standpipe it falls off easily while the 9010 is firm this body is not good at all....today my 9010 skimmed 100ml while 9011 skimmed i would say 20ml

A new drive unit 3000.600 for the 9010 should solve that problem, you could also put a 9011 pump in it.

You likely need a 9010.100 body and a 9010.300 for the stand pipe, your dealer or the distributor should be able to resolve this.

Thank u roger for the help....but i did many research online i havent seen any complaints about the tunze 9010 its a very good skimmer i see tons of problems with the 9011 i dont think id ever buy the 9011 pump over the 9010 seems like its a really bad design...comparing the 9010 and 9011 even the water coming out of standpipe is stronger then the 9011....and for some reason the 9011 skimms green wet and 9010 skims brown wet if there the same in performance i dont see why it would do this i contacted xenia he seemed very upset that its first with the pump now with the body he told me to bring it to the store im not sure what will happen he said he didnt get any email from u i spend 400$ on something that i need to go back and fourth to get fixed thinking this would be like the 9010

Ive decided to get the 9011 fixed and sell it the pump does not fit innthe 9011 body the body bulges out because of the circular back anyways ....my 9010 is skimming great just a question...my airline water gets inside it sumhow not sure if this is normal?

Having done this for over a dozen years, every model gets its share of complaints and they vary in validity. I think most of why you find more 9011 issues is simply because the 9010 hasn't been made in a few years and current posts on forums are uncommon. The 9011 pump is a better pump, I am sorry you had these issues, but it is quieter, uses less energy and because it has less drag from brakes, etc, it is a slightly better performer. If water gets in the airline, either the silencer has a leak or it is submerged too deep or the stand pipe is too high (sponge over top of pipe or pipe not fully pushed into the elbow).
