Tunze and my 75 gallon?

Roger, you are always so helpful to people in your forum, now it's my turn to ask a question. I've always been under the impression that the Tunze products were too much flow for my 75 gallon. Am I correct? Do you have a suitable design for a 75 gallon? If so, what would that be?

Thanks for your assistance,
Russ

Not at all. I have a 75 in my office, it is just a new algae farm at the moment because the rock is about 10 days into curing but I am running a single 6000 and a wavebox and in my opinion the flow is perfect. My only other flow sources are a return pump doing about 300 gph and an Eheim 2217 packed with Zeolith running my Teco Chiller, that does about 250gph. I am not decided on keeping the Eheim running the Teco chillers are made to be used this way and so it was the easiest install plus I wanted to try our Zeolith media and experiment with the need for carbon sources for these medias to work.

Roger, thanks so much for the quick reply. Can you tell me what wait times are currently for the 6000 and wavebox? I know there is high demand for your product and availability is effected by this demand.

Thanks again,
Russ

The 6000's I project will be caught up in the next 2 weeks, level with demand or maybe even in stock. The wavebox, I am still unsure of, I would say 12 weeks just to be very cautious.

Roger, thanks for the update, I am also looking to set up a Tunze system for my new 75. I have looked back at some of the threads that you have posted in regarding 75 gallon tanks and I was wondering if you still feel that a 6000 & 7091 would be sufficient? I noticed you mentioned above that you are running a 6000 and wavemaker on your 75, wouldn't that be to much flow?

Thanks in advance for your input.

The wavebox doesn't make a flow like people think of, without seeing it it really is hard to explain but it is just a back and forth rocking that any animal could take, it has no real possibility to do damage. I think it really is the way to go, a single 6000 is fine for a 75.

Roger, thanks for all the info. You really live up to expectations for customer service so far.
Can you link me to the wavebox? I'm confused about the wavebox as compared to the 7091 controller. What is the difference? Would either one work on a 75? Or, do you recommend the wavebox either way? Sorry for all the Q's.

Russ

Thanks Roger, I have one more question for you. If I decided to go with the single 6000 and controller where should the stream be placed for maxium flow? Should it be in the back corner low pointing upward, or middle/top of tank just pointing across the tank? Also, would the single controller give me uni-directional flow thru the tank? If I have just the 6000 and my return with a Y would that give me nice water movement? I am planning on keeping a mixed reef (a few SPS, LPS, softies, etc).

Thanks again for all your help, your customer service has been amazing so far and I can't wait to become a Tunze customer.

The wavebox has it's own special controller, 6091, it comes with the unit and that is what makes it a wavebox, without it, it will really do nothing. The 7091 is a Single Controller and it pulses a Stream pump between two different speeds you set every few seconds, the 6091 by comparison turns a pump off and on every .4-1.2 seconds to coincide with the resonance frequency of the aquarium, only one pulse rate will create a wave in each aquarium. The pulsing action breaks up the flow so while it may be unidirectional it is not the same as just constantly running at one speed.

Thank you for your response Roger. It is getting clearer.

So I would need to buy a 6000 and a 6091 to accomplish a 'complete & operational' setup. No need for a 7091. Correct?

Thanks again,
Russ

The 6091 comes with the waveboox, it is not a seperate part. If you get a waveboox it will include the necessary 6091 controller. The wavebox comess complete, pump and all. For your directional flow you would get a 6000 and a 7091. This wooud give you pulse mode and night mode and food timer for the 6000.
