Tunze DOC Skimmer 9004

I have an AC version of the DOC 9004. It is 5 years old and is making a constant humming noise I can't seem to stop.

I recently took it apart and clean it, soaked the needle wheel magnet unit in water/vinegar solution and gentle brushing and flushed the foamer well with water to remove slime.

The air intake opening was salt encrusted, removed all of that.

Have taken it apart several time now in hopes the hum and vibration would stop. Have adjusted the water level on the cup intake, nothing seems to help.

Is it safe to assume that I need to order a new replacement foamer, entire unit, motor base and needle wheel? Will this make it quiet again, or do I need to replace the entire skimmer with new DOC 9004?

Nicholas,

I think all you need is the needle wheel, it is likely worn and is able to wobble and that results in noise, it is the only moving part. Unless the metal shaft in the pump is bent or loose, the needle wheel 9004.047 is all you should need.

Hi Rodger,
Thanks for the help. I'll take a closer look for possible loose or bent metal post in the motor housing. If all looks ok, I'll order a needle wheel.

That will be a big saving over the replacing the whole foamer unit, motor and all.
