Tunze Master Electronic Pump 1073.160

I just received a new 1073.160 Master pump, and the aluminum cooling fin is missing from the pump body. The picture on the instruction manual shows the pump without the fins. Can anyone let me know if this is normal for this model, not to have the plate?

I think the aluminum cooling fins come with the larger model.

You have a 1073.090, these have no aluminum cooling fins, it cannot be 1073.16 because this pump was cancelled almost 2 years ago and all stock from dealers was taken back.

He bought it from one of the guy who used to own CFC in California i think.

I did get it from someone in CA, not sure if they owned CFC. It is for sure a 1073.160 pump. The pump is new in the box. Any idea why they were returned.

They were removed so Tunze in Germany can work on the electrical issues. I was going to get the same pump for my new tank but i have to wait till they come out with the new one. The guy who posted the pump on FS forum with a link that lead to ebay. It was closed due to that matter. I was going to post the info on that pump but i don't want to get into an arguement

Marine Depot bought 4 pumps in total 2 drop ships and 2 for there stock, neither drop ship went to California, Coral Oasis another store in California bought 2, both dealers were given full refunds and asked to destroy there stock. 5 of these pumps made it to end users these were replaced with 1073.09's or refunded. The pump would not run reliably in an ambient temperature above 75 degrees.

I am beyond puzzled, the 1073.16 always had the heat sink, an electronics board was under the heatsink on the side of the pump. I think that is a 1073.09 with a 1073.16 box and label. The 1073.09 lacked the electronics which were the unreliable component, at a higher temperature the resin that waterproofed the board destroyed the board because it produced acids.

I removed the impeller to see if I can identify what model pump this is.

Yes it does, I really don't know what to say, the 1073.16 went through a few changes, we kept trying to get it work but the final revision which is likely what you have was reviewed by a professional safety engineering firm and they said the average service life was about 2 years from there endurance testing. This wasn't long enough for us so we gave up, we felt that for the price point it had to last for a minimum of 5 years. That pump had a driver that cheated the Hz so the Impeller did about 4200 rpm instead of 3600, by spinning much faster it could pump more water with less electricity but this driver just could not be reliably encapsulated and cooled at the time. I cannot recall for sure if the last revisions had the heat sink or not, I know we sent all our stock back to Germany twice to be replaced and finally we abandoned the pump.
