hi do you have any info on the new tunze master skimmers , ? how have they been comparing to the older doc skimmers?

do the new pumps use needle wheels ?

i am setting up a 200g (uk) reef and i have been thinking of the fauna marin skimmers , but i want to have a look at the tunze to , tunze skimmer have had negative press i dont know why ?

with the new master skimmer i have noticed that the only differance is the amount of pumps of them , if i bouht the smallest one is ther an option to fit another pump in the futre? many thanks:rollface:

They do use needle wheels and you can fit a second pump at anytime, the fitting is already present. I think most of the negative press is just the lack of availability. They are very hard to get. Very few are out and most of what is out were Beta models and the needlewheel could be noisy but that was changed on the few final production models we have recieved.

It is difficult for me to say as I have not used any other brand in 6 years and I personally do not have a reef tank big enough to need such a skimmer. A LFS here is running the beta model and is very satisfied except for some noise issues that were corrected in the final versions. They say it beats anything else they have tried and there usual in store skimmer was a Euroreef 12" 2 pump model.

when will they be released as a full production model available to the general public and do you have any price estimates on the different models?

The prices should be available on the Interzoo 2007 flyer you can download on Tunze.com. We have received 4 9420 and 2 9440 as final production versions to date. They should be more widely available in a couple more weeks.

Roger,

There is no interzoo 2007 download available on tunze.com

(at least none that I can find)

all i see is a link to the interzoo information page but from that point on there is no specific vendor information

Would you please help a brother out

Is the 2007 Interzoo flyer available for viewing/download? I have found the other product information, but this flyer is always a good read.

Hey Roger - Is the pricing on your website MSRP? All of the Master DOC skimmers I've seen for sale have been quite a bit more than that, I ordered mine and paid a slightly higher price.

MSRP on the models in US $ are

9420- $708.63
9440- $963.74
9460- $1623.41
9480- $1878.52

Roger,

I remember you saying that the DOC skimmers ratings are optimistic and how if you have SPS you have to reduce the ratings by 40%, etc. Is there something similar to this on the Master DOCs? Do you know these reductions? I was going to order an H&S but im tempting to wait for these Master DOC's when they come out. You said a few weeks right? Are all the standard tunze vendors (MarineDepot, PA, etc) getting them?

Did you get your from an overseas vendor? Did you get it yet? What is the general consensus from the people that have them? Im assuming only overseas have them because Roger said only very few were sent to US for beta testing or whatnot.

I'm still waiting on mine, a couple more weeks is what I was told. I ordered it about a week ago though my LFS. I will share my thoughts on it when I get it up and running. I don't know of anyone who actually has one yet.

As for the rating I was told (by Roger) that it's basically the same system used for the existing skimmers, the below quote is from a retail site.

Low Sensitivity
In soft coral aquariums with long-polyp corals and anemones, for example, the share in dissolved organic matter may be higher, sometimes it may even be vital. In this type of aquarium, the recommended aquarium volume can be used without deduction.

Medium Sensitivity
A medium organic stability is usually found in mixed aquariums inhabited with soft and stony corals (LPS). Filter-feeding animals, sponges, et cetera, are found there frequently as well. For these aquariums, a reduction of about 20 percent of the skimming capacity is calculated.

High Sensitivity
Aquariums with primarily small-polyp stony corals (SPS) require an especially high degree of purity. They should have no load of phosphates or nitrates worth mentioning. Good oxygen saturation and very clear water are the prerequisites. Comline ODC skimmer is also often used as a “stand-alone” solution in these aquariums. This type of aquarium should be reduced by about 40 percent in volume for the skimmer volume mentioned.

High Sensitivity and High Load
Hard coral aquariums with a high population of fish require an extremely high skimming capacity. The skimmer has to ensure the degree of purity for the hard corals at an above-average high fish load. If the Comline DOC skimmer has to be operated as a “stand-alone” solution in these aquariums, a high-performance is required. This type of aquarium should be reduced by about 60 percent in volume for the skimmer volume mentioned.

I ordered the 9420, paid a little above MSRP.

I looked at the stated performance of the pump and the design of the skimmer. The numbers look good, we'll see how it actually performs. I can always sell it if I'm not satisfied but I wanted to give these skimmers a shot considering the super low power consumption, and the excellent reputation that Tunze has.

Sorry to bother but is a couple of weeks like 2 weeks or more like 8-12 weeks?

It should be more like 2-3 weeks. The problem is our needle wheel is really unique and a bit complex with soft rubber needles on a hard plastic disk and it is presenting some challenges to mold and assemble. I believe these issues have been worked out but it makes mass production a bit complex.
