Tunze Nano Skimmer...Expected Better!

Received the Tunze Nano skimmer yesterday. First, who designed the mounting brackets? They should be fired...just plain poor design. So I mount the unit and plug it in....no water/foam at all making it to the base of the cup. Adjusted the screw max one way then the other and still nothing. Remove the skimmer and remove the base plate to get to the pump. Find that the output nozzle is broken off the pump....nice. I will be returning this skimmer and trying the AquaC Urchin instead. I know this is most likely an isolated incident but still disappointing/aggravating.

I think you will find our skimmer out performs the urchin and is quieter but if you lack the patience to assemble a bracket and to wait for a new nozzle (I could send it today), not much I can do for you. For what it's worth, the bracket was designed in Europe for tanks with no trim, worldwide there are at least 8 major types of tank construction and only the US tends to have our particular type of trim, even then it isn't that hard to install, I have photos in my gallery of products installed using the bracket. They are secure and adaptable to just about every tank design. Try running a search and I think you will see the 9002 gets a good review.

An Urchin is a poor performing skimmer. Let Roger help out and get the Tunze working.

Roger, I don't lack patience, been waiting for over a year to get things going. Never said the bracket was difficult to assemble just don't care for the design. Fixed the skimmer myself.

Thanks,

Frank

Funny you say they're so bad. I agree that the design of the bracket isn't as 'plug and play' as most of us are use to. I opened the bracket package and went what the... why so many parts. Assembly was easy enough, and I even had fun freaking the wife out because I had 'extras'.

Anyways, I'm happy with the skimmer. It pulls out as much as my old Remora Pro (with the surface box and mag7) did on my 30g. Maybe there's not much to skim out, but the Tunze is a hell of alot quieter. Only complaint; no surface skimming to the skimmer. I guess that's what the reef pack is for, but I'd rather see the surface film go to the skimmer and not the tank.

Nanoreefaholic,
I never said the skimmer was bad, it was broken so it did not work at all. And we agree on the bracket. I never said it was difficult or anything else besides I did not care for the design. I superglued the broken piece and have installed the skimmer in my sump. The skimmer is only submersed approx 6" so I'm not sure that is deep enough.

Sorry, I should have said 'Funny you say the bracket's so bad'. I understand it was more of a vent due to the arrival condition, and not the skimmer performance. The top paragraph was my agreeing with you on the bracket, although it's like that due to the many applications. The second paragraph was my 2c on how I expected more, but generally happy with the skimmer.

I think the skimmer needs to be 7 1/4" submerged but I could be wrong.
