Tunze osmolator pump is noisy

I bought a tunze osmolator 3-4 months ago and the pump that pumps water has been very noisy. Every time it kicks on I can hear it in my next room. It almost sounds like a buzzer

I thought it should be as quiet as a power head. I am trying to understand if this is the normal mode of operation or is the pump malfunctioning?

Any help you can provide would be great.

They are not silent and some may vary in noise as well as the container it is in and surrounding ambient noise ect will play into how loud it seems. But in the end you will hear it running in my experience. Try "hanging" in the container so it is not touching the bottom or sides and usually will help a bit.

Mine is virtually silent. Get a replacement pump, they are cheap and it never hurts to have redundancy. A great way to troubleshoot problems!

I have had my Tunze stick on, water on the floor but a small enough reservoir that nothing was damaged in my tank (the tile floor helped too). Now it is on a timer with a short "on" period every day.

I should say I wasn't dismissing the idea that there could be a problem and it should not be extremely loud but the couple I have had I could hear. Roger will chime in when time allows with his thoughts as well I am sure.

They do vibrate and make some noise, most will depend on how sensitive you are to noise and installation. If the pump is suspended and doesn't touch the reservoir and it is in a stand, it should be reasonably quiet. It is also worth while to tip it upside down the next time it kicks on, this will purge out air that may result in more noise. They also can be noisier when new.

Joe, your post concerns me. Something has to be wrong as the unit has 2 safeties in the form of a float switch and 10 minute time out. Even with a defect it should be impossible for the unit to cause a flood if it is properly installed. I can only recall 2 units worldwide that had defects to this extent that the safeties did not work and that was quite sometime ago, we have since introduced 3 quality checks and changed some components, they are designed to fail in the off position if a major defect or short does occur. Let me know more.
