Tunze Power Consumption + moonlight

Hello,

I am placing an order for two Tunze 6000, 7095 controller, and two magnet holder. Just a few quick questions:

1. The 6000 is rated at 15 watts. I assume that is at full speed. When the speed is reduced, does the power consumption go down?

2. The controller has a moonlight feature. Where do I purchase the moonlight for it?

BTW - the pumps will be going into a AGA 120G (4x2x2). Here is a picture of the the tank.

1 Yes.

2. The single moonlight is included- no moonlights can be added. It is one LED.

Thanks Roger! Too bad about the moonlight - but I guess it's better than not having one. :D Looking forward to getting my Tunze in.

Has anyone tried "hacking" the system to get more moonlights? Just curious.

You cannot, the goal was a moonlight, not a nightlight, it is very dim just like the moon. It was researched pretty throughly and the ratio of the intensity of the moon to the sun was used comparative to the intensity of a 150w HQI lamp to decide on the intensity of the moonlight.

Hi Roger, I am curious as to whether the moonlight serves any
biological function for the corals. Is the 7095 moonlight purely for
aesthetic purpose?
In my foolhardy, halcyon younger days I have gone diving in
the reefs over here at midnight. I cannot recall corals illuminated by
moonlight, despite some claims that coral spawning is stimulated
by moonlight cycles. Sure you can see the moon from below if you
look up to the surface but you still need powerful torches to find
your way around among the reefs at night during a full moon.

According to Fossa and Nilsen moonlight stimulates spawning, I would believe this is so because I have had caulerpa do it's usual breakdown when a lunar eclipse occurs. Most animals and some plants are influenced by lunar cycles.

I have been planning to buy the 7095 but I have some concerns.
How much heat does the moonlight give off? What is the life
expectancy of the moonlight? Is the moonlight replaceable
without replacing the 7095 controller?

It gives off almost no heat, it is an LED. It could be replaced but should last for many years. Replacement would be beyond a normal DIY project as the entire photocell assembly has to be replaced and the new one soldered onto the board.
