Tunze pump question

I have been thinking of trading out my MP pumps for some tunze but have a few questions that I hope can clarified.

It looks like I have to purchase the Tunze Turbelle Stream 6105 Controllable pump at 347 dollars (need 4 of them) and the Tunze Multicontroller 7096 for 170 dollars. Is this correct? I want a wave so the controller would be a must in this case

Second question, since I have an apex could I purchase Tunze Turbelle Stream 6125 or 6085 x4 and create a wave with the apex? Sorry if this is a silly question as I am still learning everything the apex can offer.

Any recommendations on which tunze pump and how many to put on my 180g DT that is 6x2x2?

the 6125 and 6085 are not controllable like they would need to be to make a wave.

Instead of the 7096, get the variable controller thru apex for the tunzes, or if you don't have the lite version of apex, you just need the cables for the apex, and you already have 4 channels to control.

as for recommendation's, the newer pump have a wider pattern that is nice, maybe look @ 2 6155's or 6255's

+1 on landy's info. Also only the Tunze waveboxes will give a wave in most tanks. Some people have said that they have gotten a wave with just their stream pumps on the controller but I haven't been able to. But my wavebox does the trick nicely. You might be able to get away with 2 of the 6155's and a wavebox which can be controlled by either the 7096 or your apex.

I have two 6105 controlled through an Apex on my 36x30x22 cubish tank and it's overkill. I had to put in the smallest jumpers and then turn them down to 60%. They move a lot of water. If I were setting up a standard 180, I'd go with 2x6105s on each end and maybe add two 6055s on the back wall. However, I don' think the 6055s on the back would be necessary.

Landy is correct, you don' need the Tunze controller for the pumps, you can save yourself some money and control them through the Apex, which is what I do. It takes some time to get them programmed but once you do, you can play around with them and to find a setting that will generate a wave.

I also run two 6055s on a 36x18x18 tank and run a program that occasionally creates a wave. If the magnets on the 6055s were strong enough to go through the 3/4" acrylic, I'd run them in my bigger tank too.

In my opinion, I still think Tunzes are the best pumps out there for reliability and noise level. Vortechs look the best but they're relatively loud. That's the trade-off at the end of the day.

I have 2 - 6255 on a 48x30x18. One on each back outside corner, pointed across the tank @ a 45. But, turned up past 45 they blow water over the edge of the tank :spin2: Have been kinda wishing the tank was euro braced just to keep the water in...

nice thing with the 6155 & 6255 pumps, even @ low power they move a wall of water. Not a jet steam.

then I have a dart gold on an OM 4 way... :deadhorse1:

Thanks for the feed back everyone. I should have mentioned that my 180 DT is a peninsula so I am limited to having the powerheads on the short ends. Knowing this can I get away with 6155 x2 and the VDM for the apex?

Should be good on a peninsula setup. Worst comes to worst you can get a wavebox later.

I have seen some good deals in the classy for 6205's and 6305's. If your not in a hurry, this would be the way to go.

I just picked up a set of 6205's with no power supply's for cheap. rebuilt them will all new wear parts, and ordered some power supplies online.

I just added a tunze 6105 and dang it moves water. I was happy with the water flow with the 18v adapter. I switched out to the 24v and was amazed. The pump is way wuiter than my MP40's. My wife asked if I was going to turn it on after it had been in for 10 minutes. I told her it was in and she was shocked :eek1:

So far I am very please with my purchased. I am getting a 6095 on Thursday. I will add at least one more, either another 6105 or 6095. Thinking 6095 and if I need more flow then I could add another 6105 or 6095 lol. Can't wait to be able to control these pumps!

Too soon to say if I like these more than vortech. Only down side so far to tunze, motor and cord are inside the tank.

I run three 6095's and one MP40 on my 110. I have the cables to control the 6095's through my Apex but I find that the MP40 does just fine in 'mixing things up'. On the other hand, the 6095s are dead silent and it's very easy to direct the flow. I can tell you that from a reliability perspective, the Tunze are great and I suspect are less sensitive to things like grains of sand than the MP40.

So far I am very pleased. I get a 6095 today so depending on the performance of it, I'll decide the rest of my set up with tunze. For sure I will have three tunze but I am thinking 4 would be better.

I'll post an update after I set up the 6095 on which way I will go
