Tunze Recirculation Silence Plumbing Question

Roger (or anyone who can help),

The Silence pump comes with the hose supports for attaching a 3/4" (or 1/2") hose. Instead of using that, can a 3/4" MPT fitting be used instead such as a 3/4" union? Any concerns on doing this?

I prefer to use rigid PVC instead of hose.

Thanks for the help.

Mark

Yes, you can do this, the only concerns would be to not overtorque the fitting, keep in mind most MPT thread fittings are flared and if overtorqued could crack the pump fitting. Also, the rigid pipe connection will result in more noise due to the transmission of vibration. Ideally a short length of hose would be used to connect the pump to rigid pipe to eliminate this issue.

Thanks Roger.

Would I need a fitting like this to go from hose to PVC? (hope the picture shows)

This is called a 3/4 spigot x 3/4 barb. This is my first attempt at plumbing a tank or anything for that matter. Needless to say, I'm pretty clueless being far from handy.

Thanks,
Mark

Yes, and you would just want a 4" length of hose, just a short length to isolate the pipe from the pump.
