Tunze Recommendation Please

I'm considering replacing powerheads with a tunze system. If I can get away with just one pump, it would be great. I use hydor koralias right now, but I think my corals would benefit from some more nonlinear flow.

Tank is 48 x 18 x 24 high. It is mostly LPS with a couple hearty SPS (Turbinaria sp.) I have a few that like lower flow. The only other flow would be my return pump, which is about 400 gph coming through 3/4" lock line. (I am also plumbed for a closed loop, which I would like to simply stop using.)

Could I get by with just one 6101? Or is this too much flow? Or would two smaller pumps be better? Also, I'm a bit confused about my control options, and the difference between the single and multi-controller. It looks as though you have to go up to the 6101 to get the maximum controlling options. With just one pump, would I get added benefit (other than the moonlight, which is kind of cool) out of the 7095 over the single controller?

As noted, just one pump in the tank would be ideal. Any recommendations much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I would start with a single 6101, no controller is needed to run it. If you think that is enough, get the single controller, the multicontroller is for multiple pumps, the moonlight is an added feature but it mainly allows you to coordinate multiple pumps.

Sorry, Roger -- one more question. If I went with 2 pumps it looks as though 2x6055 with the multicontroller would give me more options, but for considerably more money. Would this be overkill?

No, it would work very well, 2 pumps is generally superior because you can alternate flow directions every few hours.
