Tunze & Seaswirl for 240?

Good morning Roger,
I have a 240gal (96"long, 30"high, and 20" front to back). It is a mixed mushroom, lps, and sps reef with several tangs, and the usual complement of reef fish. The tank is acrylic, with two bottom drilled overflows - one opposite the other in each rear corner. The returns are just jets, from an Ampmaster 3000.

Here is a layout of my tank and front view.

I'm thinking ...
  • remove both powerheads (PH) from the sides
  • the smallest Tunze stream that can be controlled - the TS-7? - on the left side.
  • plumb the two return jets into a Seaswirl mounted on the opposite (right) side to cause a little gentle turbulence.
My concern is not blowing the anemone off from his pedestal.
Your thoughts?

Streams and Anemones based on feedback here- are not the best combination. I would probably get two seaswirls and a wavebox and get rid of the powerheads.

Thank you

Thank you

Thank you for your advice. I'll have to figure out a way of mounting the SeaSwirls. My tank is acrylic, so I don't have a nice clean edge on top. Perhaps I could attach a small bar of acrylic with which to make a "lip".

Hi Rodger, I'm back again :-)
The SeaSwirls have been in place, but aren't enough flow by themselves.

I've read a few posts regarding anemones since mine above. Since my anemone is in the middle of the tank, and my Streams would be placed on the ends, I believe the anemone would be safe. I also have some smaller animals: engineer gobies, neon dottyback, pygmy angels.

I see that the 6000s offer a 4', and 6100's a 7' flow distance. If I don't go with a Wavebox, which would be "better"? Enough flow but not so much as to overtax the smaller fish?

Two 6000s alternating flow from either end, or
Two 6100s alternating flow from either end, or
One 6100 - with a single controller

I think the 2 6000's would be best but use Interval 1 so the pumps don't turn off, they idle instead and this will help keep the small fish out of the pumps.
