I am contemplating the 9011 vs 9430 skimmers. I know these are fairly different in design, but I am looking for a small footprint/in tank skimmer for today (54g tank) but want to be able to use it in my next tank (150-180g). I'm mainly interested in the pump differences. The collection cup necks appear to be about the same size, the skimmer body on the 9430 is significantly larger.
9011 uses the Hydrofoamer 9011.040 with 22 watts, 1200l/hr of water and 650l/hr air. Recommended to 290g. It looks like the 9016 uses the same pump and skimmer body, but with a taller collection neck, rating raised to 420g.
9430 uses the Hydrofoamer Silence 9430.040 with 32 watts, 1500l/hr of water and 1400l/hr of air. 800g rating (wow)
I have no doubt that the 9430 would out skim the 9011, but would it be substantial enough of a difference on a 150-180g moderately stocked SPS tank?
It looks like the 9430 has the "new generation" Tunze pumps with true needle wheel impellers instead of the curved impeller on the 9011 pump. Anyone know if Tunze is planning on upgrading the Comline skimmers with the new generation needle wheel pumps?
Does anyone have experience with these two skimmers?
