Tunze Stream 6060's what do you think?

I currently have a 120g mixed reef, lots of zoo's, rics, other mushrooms, xenia, etc. I currently just started purchasing SPS (Montipora Caps, Acropora, etc.) and was looking of taking out my 6 MJ1200's and upgrading to two Tunze 6060's, will this be sufficient flow for a 120g? I am about 100% sure I am upgrading my tank to either a 180, 210, or 220 gallon tank, will two Tunze 6060's still be sufficient flow for SPS? is the 263$ + 12$ shipping worth it for two Tunze 6060's? Will I regret not purchasing a controller compatible tunze? (price difference is drastic for the controllable tunze's). I am ready to order as I am sick of my maxijets falling all over the place in my tank stirring my sand and knocking over corals/frags.

Please let me know your opinions and I rather hear from people who have actually owned a Tunze 6060, thanks in advance and I really appreciate all comments/suggestions/feedback.

Thanks again,
-Mike C. aka ZURCSREEF

I don't have the 6060's but I do have two 6100's and love the flow. I was originaly planning on buying the 6060's but am glad that I saved my pennies for the 6000's & 7095. I then upgraded the 6000's to the 6100.

I purchased 2 Tunzes with the controller unit. I too had a difficult time with the price, just seemed way too high...

However, I'm extremely happy with the decision now. The controller has a delay button for feeding the tank. You press the red button on the controller and the streams stop long enough for the fish to eat without getting blown all over the tank.

Running 2 streams instead of 6 MJ1200's on a wave maker really cleaned up my tank in appearance too. The streams are like water canons. Tons and tons of flow.

Just as a side note. There is an accessory I wouldn't do without for your streams. It's a magnetic holder that holds the streams to the glass. You can position them anywhere you like. The stock hanging attachment that comes with the streams are a bit flakey and really don't hold them very well. Check out the magnetic option. Oh yeah, they are pricey too... of course.

For the Tunze being so expensive, I am very suprised they do not come with the magnets, or that the magnetics aren't just a little bit cheaper... jesus anywhere from 36$-52$ for a magnetic @_@

I opted for the Tunze rocks. They blend in nicely with my LR, esp since I just finished cooking my rocks. Both my LR and the Tunze rocks are now starting to show nice purpling on them.

I'd go with the controllable Tunze.
Night sensor option & varied flow are worth it

I own a 6060 & a 6000
The 6060 is no longer in the tank
I'll be upgrading the 6000 to a 6100

2 x 6060's here.
i'd love to afford the 6100 with controller..but i have other responsibilities with my finances as well.
On that note, i'm tempted to try the singlecontroller connected to a simple unregulated inverter to be able to vary them.

How many Tunze Streams would you suggest for a 120g and how many for a 180g? I was thinking of using two 6060's in my 120, but I might just go ahead and go with two 6100's, just going to have to get one at a time. Let me know what you guys think and what you would suggest, I want a really nice random current in my tank and I wanted to know if these streams will do it.

I have a 120 and the 6060 in the tank. I have sofites zoos and lps. I wish I had a single 6000 with the controller. I wish I would have got the 6080. eventually I will get the 6080 and put it in the 120 and move the 6060 to my 55.

I am thinking about ordering the 6100 with the single controller and then doing the same in a few weeks for a 2nd, are the magnets really worth the money or are the brackets that come with them sufficient enough to save 36$?

Let me know, thanks so far for the suggestions and comments.

I am mostly softies at the moment, with zoo's and some LPS, one large montipora cap/colony, but wanted to start stocking alot more SPS, what would be the best setup for this in a 180g tank?

yes the magnets are worth it. they allow you to choose the placement of the pump.

for a 180 I would go with 2 6100's

I just got as 6000 w single controller on my 90g. I am pretty happy w the flow. I previously had 2 820 seios and a rio ph.

I bought the magnet, which is excellent, and does make it easy to move the unit around and you can adjust to the flow to side to side very easily.

I am not that impressed w the single controller as far as any wave action w my 1 6000. If I had the 6100, I would have more flow to control. I can always upgrade the transformer for about 80 bucks tho to a 6100

I would go w the streams for more versatility. You can upgrade the transformers and add the controllers.

YOu couldl glue the MJ1200's to magfloats and then they won't fall into the sand and you can move them anywhere you want.

It won't clear up the clutter but it sure works slick.

Regards,

Pat

that sounds like a cool idea, but mag floats are like 15-50$ a piece and I rather put that towards a tunze stream...

I looked into the Tunze, but couldn't make the math work out. IMO the tunze look nasty hanging on the glass (note that is a super slick rock install) Why not go with a close loop, it could be a cleaner install, if you don't mind losing the controller.

Sure a CL looks way better than a couple of Tunze Streams. OTOH, while the Tunze's are easy to setup and each only takes 11W to run, a CL requires some plumbing skills and at least 10x the wattage.
I think there was a long thread here about "Tunze vs CL" a while back.

I forgot to say that I like the way those rock mounts look in your tank. Were they difficult to set up?

Sorry, missed this -
No. Just put the stream in it from the bottom and off you go. No fuss, no muss.
