Tunze Stream control?

So after a tiny struggle with the firmware update to 3.3 (due to some local networking issues and a kinda confusing Neptune update program), I can say that overall, I'm really happy with the Aquasurf.

I have an 80 gallon ELOS tank which is 4 ft long. I am using the following programming statements for 2 Tunze Stream 6000s:

If Timer LT1 = ON Then PM1 PF1
If Timer LT1 = OFF Then PM1 PF2
If Timer LT1 = ON Then PM2 PF3
If Timer LT1 = OFF Then PM2 PF4
Pmp MODE sD for PF1
Pmp Int 030/100 for PF1
Pmp OSC 08/07/00 for PF1
Pmp MODE sD for PF2
Pmp Int 030/050 for PF2
Pmp OSC 50/90/00 for PF2
Pmp MODE SD for PF3
Pmp Int 030/100 for PF3
Pmp OSC 00/07/08 for PF3
Pmp MODE SD for PF4
Pmp Int 030/050 for PF4
Pmp OSC 00/90/50 for PF4

I'm running the pumps in two modes, day mode has a resonate wave and night mode is weaker and less turbulent with no wave. You can definitely see the water motion transition from the wave motion to quiet mode.

My only problem is that I can't seem to get a very big wave in my tank. My wave is a little under 1 inch high right now. I tried the default settings for a 4 ft tank of .8 on and .8 off, but that didn't seem to work. Reducing the "on time" to .7 seems to give me the best results. I also tried .5/.6, .6/.6, .6/.7, 1/1, etc... I'm not sure if the waves are small because of the shape of the tank or because of the positioning of my Tunzes. (One stream pump is mounted to the left glass and blows straight across. The other stream pump is mounted on the right side of the back glass and points left and front.) I also tried creating the wave with just a single pump, but couldn't seem to get anything larger. (The manual talks about getting a 2+ inch wave in a 55 gallon with a Stream 6000.) Hmmm...

I'll experiment more, but if anyone can share their resonate wave timing values for a 4ft or comparable tank I'd appreciate it.

Overall, definitely worth the purchase for me.

Jason,

Sounds great. Thanks for the update. As far as the wave goes, play with the pumps power as well as the timing if possible. Have you tried it with the pump on the back completely off. I would think it will only serve to cause interference that would decrease/kill the wave due to its position.

AquaSurf comes with:
- AquaSurf controller.
- cables for connecting 4 stream.
- telephone style connection cord.
- Manual.

An AC adapter is not included as AquaSurf gets its power from the Streams.

Eight,
It appears that the resonate period is around the 1.5, since you are getting a 1" wave. I'd try periods .1 bigger and .1 seconds smaller, and see which worked best. Then once the period has been determined adjust the on and off times for best results. You can run 0% to 100% intensity and get a larger wave as well. Also, I was able to get larger waves by placing the pumps higher in the tank.

here is my program on a 380 gallon tank, I get a little over a .5" wave. Eight, if you want to see some cool wave action set all the pumps on .3 seconds from 30-100% it's crazy.

Thanks for the help... I actually measured the wave with my .7/.8 values and the wave height was more like .5".

Curt, I think you're right. The period value should be 1.5. I tried 1.4 and 1.6 and both weren't right.

I did get better results by going with a .6 on and a .9 off. I also adjusted the pump strengths to go from 10/100 instead of 30/100.

With the .6/.9 and 10/100 I was getting over a 1" wave which is really nice. I'm actually going to turn it down some because the overflow makes a gurgling sound now and it'll probably make me seasick. :)

Thanks guys!

are you tunzes place on each end of the tank facing each other?

Disbjohn, they're not exactly opposite each other. Left pump is on the left wall, right bump is on the back wall, pointed as far left as possible.

AquaSurf cables...

AquaSurf cables...

Quick question... How long are the control cables that come with the AquaSurf? I'm somewhat challenged for space and am trying to plan ahead for tying the AquaSurf into my 4 6055's.

Thanks!

I'm also interested in the Aquasurf to control four 6055. Please post back on your experience.

Hey everyone....

I am thinking of making the plunge so I can have this controller...

Even though I feel Tunzes are way over priced, it seems that it is the only rout to get the wave type technology.

I have a 120, 48" across and will eventually have 2 streams.
I will most likely start out with one stream and get the other a month later.

what model stream should I get for my size of tank>?

6000 or 6100?

Thanks for any advice you can lend.....

I'd go 6100s on a 120 as well. No doubt the whole Tunze + Aquacontroller + Aquasurf setup is expensive, but I'm really happy with it. I have two modes set up. When the halides are on, I have a nice wave motion going in the tank. In the evening and when only the T5s are on, it's a gentler, but more random/chaotic flow.

Get the 6101. It replaces the 6000 and 6100 and has a switchable power supply that can be configured to deliver 15V (6000 equivalent) or 24V (6100 equivalent).

Thanks for the replys

I have an SPS dominated tank with a 3" sandbed (southdown).

I currently run 2 1200 mods.

Can I create any kind of wave with just the one 6101 and the controller...as I plan to buy the second Tunze a month later.

Thanks again everyone!!

Well its done...... I took the full plunge on this

Just ordered 2x 6101, the Tunze magnet holders and the Aquasurf controller.

I ordered 3 day shipping on the aquasurf ...I hope they have one in stock and can send it out this Monday.

Tunzes should arrive This Wed from P.A.

Now I need to find some programing code to make them work.

Oh yeah I think I need a firmware upgrade to my AC3 also

No clue how to do that yet either...

exciting times ahead

Thanks again for all the help everyone!!
