Tunze top off pump

I have rust on my top off pump. The fresh water that comes to thie storage tank is from an ro/di and is sealed from the elements. I have had a loss of fish and coral over the last two months and I belive this is the reason. The pump is a high quality tunze product so I can not understand where the rust is coming from. If you have any suggestions let me know. Thanks for the help.

check the open metal contacts where the pump wires are screwed together

The connections do not have any rust. They are clean as can be. This pump is only a month old. I had to replace the pump due to the transformer putting out 24 volts instead of 12. The metal shaft that the impellor rides on is where the rust is.

contact tunze, they will most likely replace it for free. it should not rust.

oh, if you have a volt meter, stick it in the top off bucket. if you have current that can cause metals to rust, wvwn ones that do not rust under normal conditions. the pump may be leaking juice and actually rusting itsself
