Turbo Coral Growth... Faster Growing Frags...More Frag Sales

very nice idea but the flatworms should be gone befor this starts. Many have problems with pest. Some get past it others do not. To me the reckless ones will pass it along and that is not good at alll. Because you are open to others that you have pest is upfront and honest and i respect that.

That's my issue as well. There will inevitably be people who don't dip as well as others, especially when pulling non-acro frags.

I think it's a great idea, but I also think you should post a list of who is participating because, and I don't mean this to sound badly since its just my paranoia and cynicism, nothing from them is ever getting near my tank.

Richard,

I totally agree with you. And if the problem could be cleaned up. But I have a 400g display tank with fully mature colonies growing on almost 800's of live rock. The back wall of my display tank has lots of corals on slab rock which is glued onto the back of the tank.

The display tank has well over 200 pcs of coral in it. The outside frag tanks have at least 300+ pieces of coral. Plus a rock sump with another 1000lbs of live rock.

Since I became aware of the AEFW over 2 years ago. I have only lost maybe 3 small colonies of millies in the display tank. If I blow the AEFW off they do fine. But if I get lazy or other issues in life pop up the AEFW get the upper hand. My Red Planet is a magnet for them. I cut frags of it and put them outside in the sun, and they did great and had no AEFW.

If the problem could be safely taken care of I would. But in 2 years I have lost 3 small pcs out of 100's. We all know if I break down the tank and start dipping all my corals the risk to my colonies is going to be much greater.

For me the AEFW issue is if it aint broke, don't fix it. My corals are well colored and growing nicely inside and out even with the myriad of stability issues in the past few months.

I totally agree with Richard and FDAWG, that would be the right thing to do.

But in my mind it's not the practical thing. Why risk corals that aren't currently at risk?

But this was just an invitation. Being practical and cautious and protective of our beauties is important.

Organism makes a really good point. Expecting everyone to do the proper dipping is impossible.

So maybe the solution is, when people want to withdraw their corals from my system, they give me notice and I do the proper dipping and cleaning procedures before they pick them up.

I would imagine that I have more experience that most in dipping, and already have all the different trays, and marked basters for dipping.

You're right, the AEFW are my issue, so making sure they don't get spread cause of me iit should be my responsibility to not let them leave my yard.

I don't mean to sound like an a** but I honestly think that if anyone takes advantage of your husbandry skills, time, money and space they shouldn't expect you to do the dipping or quarantine for them.

I know you are getting something out of this as well but in my mind if someone is using your system they should do their own thing to prevent the AEFW from getting into their systems. Let's say you do what you do and they notice after getting their frags back that they have some AEFWs. Then they blame you and tarnishes your name even if it was from another source. Just my 2¢

Really cool. I try to give away stuff when I can from my limited collection and slow growth, and several people from this forum have been awesome in donating to my classroom tank.

Trading is great too.

Dave, far away from me so never actually got to meet and pick up anything- hopefully someday, but super awesome deal Dave and hopefully more reefers can be like this.

I agree that while the generosity of pre-dipping all items leaving your tank is really awesome, I'm not sure how practical it would be.

There's a good chance it would occupy just way too much of your time, effort, and material.

Keeping in mind that it is most likely more experienced reefers with more expensive coral in this mix, they should be well aware of dipping procedures upon retrieval

And for those in fear of getting something from Dave's tank, let's face it... 50% of reefers in the area most likely already have a direct frag from his tank or even a frag from someone who had something of his in their tank.

The only difference of Dave vs another fellow reefer or a lFS is Dave is honest and up front about what he has in his system.

Agree with the above. It is the other persons responsibility to take care of that as it is with all new pieces WE all get from anywhere. If we don't do it and we get a pest, well it's our own d@mn fault.
The fact u made it known to us is respectable, but like I stated earlier that will be the issue for some, but that's each individual's concern. Sounds like you have quite a few people on board and if you were closer, I'd probably partake as well

Hey Everyone, I didn't intend to be a frag tease and offer something cool and then drop it.

The Monday after I started this thread I got a stressed phone call from Rik/Dodgerblew that his tank was crashing. Without hesitation I told him to bring what we had to try and save it.

Rik and I spent a tortuous number of hours breaking up his labor of love to try to save what we could. His corals while sitting in trays of clean, lugols dosed water in my back yard literally disintegrated in front of our eyes.

We cut, fragged, glued, dipped, dosed every tiny piece we could. And then I put the corals, into the outdoor frag tank to give them their best chance to survive.

I took the risk of introducing sick and dying corals into my system. Fortunately, whatever it was that trashed Rik's amazing collection of corals, stopped when it got to my house. I didn't suffer any corals losses of any kind.

Now that it's been 30 days, and what's left of Rik's collection, is doing well. And my corals and fish are doing great, I would like to make the offer once again.

Anyone that would like to take advantage of the sun, and turbo some coral growth let me know when you want to stop by and drop frags off. I have a rainbow of colored wire ties that we will use to identify everyone's pieces.

I am dealing with some health issues. If you reach out to me and I don't respond right away, or after a couple of days, please reach out again and we can make arrangements for you to drop off.

I hope those that were excited and intrigued by this opportunity are still excited to see what the sun can do for them.

Great idea. What if , dont want to do turbo growth...whay if i just give you 2 frags and have them at your tank ad a backup? Meaning i gift you 2 frags..but if i do need a piece back..i can get one?
Either way this sounds interesting.

Manny, If you want to bank some corals in my outside system I am more than happy to bank them for you. As long as they are something distinct. I don't mean silly priced, just something easily recognizable, then you can plop them outside. If they flourish and take off then I will let them fill out and then gradually make more to share with the SoCal locals.

Hi Guys,

I wanted people to know that this offer is still open. I have had 4 people drop by corals to bank in the sun. I am mounting the corals on ceramic tiles. The tiles have the donors name and the coral name.

The past 3-4 weeks the growth in the tank has been just crazy. Things are just encrusting and healing and sprouting like crazy.

I am available this weekend for dropoffs on Saturday morning between 10 and noon.

I am home during the week (most days) if you want to come by during the week.

Any updates dave?

Manny, Dave banked what corals survived the crash. I only ended up with two colonies and a frag that made it unscathed and 6-10 frags to mini colonies that are now growing back but I'll tell you what, I'm convinced I wouldn't have anything left if I wouldn't have had them in the outdoor system. They responded very well to the natural sunlight and RTN stopped on these and reversed. I had him cut frags off the two colonies and the frags grew faster then I've seen frags grow as far as encrusting. Not only that the colors on my yellowish green tort went yellow in the sun. I've exchanged one of the bulbs in my fixture with the 6500k ge t5 and I have the tort at top of tank and directly underneath that bulb to try to keep the yellow and I can see it slowly getting more green although still more yellow. Looks great under my Reefbrites. The blue milli of mine in his outdoor stayed very blue but the growth tips went bright purple. In my tank the blue is great but not getting the purple like it was in his system. I'm starting to collect some acros again and I plan on making frags of all to go into a dedicated rack if he'll let me :)

Great to hear rik.

65k GE, now thats a bulb I have not heard in years. Where did you find one? Did you notice any increase in algae? I always liked the yellow look.

Aquarium Specialty. No algae issue. I took out a coral + and replaced it with the ge. I've been talking with Adam from Battlecorals for a long time and one thing I learned is that he tends to use more lower temp bulbs and settings in his growout tanks. It doesn't make the tank yellow but it does make it brighter like a Phoenix 14k. I like the light color better with the coral+ but I want to try to keep this tort yellow and I have a pikachu piece that I lost about half of but is growing back and I want to bring the yellow out in it. I think the polyps are getting redder.
