Turn Down The Bubbles?

Does anyone have any ideas on eleminating some bubbles in my fuge? No filter socks and didn't build in any bubble chambers...

I've tried turning down the returns, didnt seem to help. I'd rather stay away from filter socks. I thought the first chamber in the fuge was large enough to disapate most of the bubbles but it NOT.

yup - never too late for baffles - cut a few pieces of glass or acrylic about 1/8" less than the inside width of the sump - you can use weather stripping to wedge them into place. it will hold them just fne - as bubble traps the water level should be ~ the same on both sides, so no excess pressure on one side

hey, guys sorry for the late response. I would like to stay away from filter socks because of the cleaning. I'm thinking of the baffles, but looking to find something that would be a quick fix. The problem is that LOADS are coming from the input pipes. i have two corner overflows with overflow kits and i've never seen these kits put out so much bubbles, and it's both pipes so i don't believe there are any leaks in the joints.

Sounds like you want a fast, simple, and easy fix for an over-sight in design...

Socks and Baffles are put in the system to prevent bubbles... and you don't have these things, and seem to be reluctant to put them in...

I think if you don't do the norm... then your only solution is to stunt the flowrate, cripple the system for a quick fix...

I do have baffels in the tank, there are three different compartments, the first is the imput with liverock rubble, then it flows into the next which is a dsb and the last has a slanted piece of acrylic which is my ATS that feeds the return pumps.

what return pump are you using? and how much flow is going through your sump? you could try submerging a piece of large pvc(with holes drilled in it) underneath the drains and then fill it with larger pieces of rock to disperse the bubbles. make sure the piece of pvc is higher than the water level in that chamber so the bubbles can rise to the top of the pipe while water exits through the holes below.

im using two Marineland 5500's.. They are rated at 1385 gph of course thats not what what their pushing. The large PVC over the drains sounds like an easy thing to try. maybe install a tee at the bottom of the pipe to release the water easier in two directions and some rubble may help eleminate the bubbles from following down?
