Turning off filter at night?

My tank is in our living room. The siphon tubes from the overflow gurgle very loudly. We are going to have company this weekend, and several people are going to have to sleep in the LR. Will it be ok to turn off the filter and just circulate water with the powerheads when they go to bed and turn on the sump when they get upon the morning? Only a few sponges, a couple of montis, four shrooms, and half a dozen fish.

Thanks for your advice,
Dave

'Cause the gurgling is down where the the siphone hoses enter the sump. There is no noise coming from the overflow box.

If you have dursos try adjusting them so lest air enters the drain so you get less bubbles, also try the outlet of the drain outside the sump water and inside the water to see which one makes less noise.

You could also "T" the drain line entering the sump. Then throw a 45 on the "T" with some poly fill in the end of it as a baffle. This will allow the air to escape the drain line before entering the sump and eliminate the bubbling/gurgling sound.

To answer your question i dont think for one night it is going to hurt anything to turn it off. As long as you have your circulation and your temp doesnt drop.

keep the heater in the DT for the night, jsut in case. An airstone might be a good idea too, because you wont have the skimmer pushing O2 into the system.
