twice or once per month for water change

Hi,

I am thinking of changing from Monthly water change 15% to twice per month. Is it good idea or no positive effect?
Thanks for all comments.

I heard of a guy doing 1 gallon a day for his SPS.

I know of a friend that does 5 gallons a day for his leather/zoos tank.

I have a 58 gallon display and I do 20 gallons every 10 days.
Mostly SPS.

weekly wc's or **** even daily is ideal....i think there is no way for long term success(like 10 years) without doing alot of Wcing......eventually the tank catches up and smacks you in your ***....avoid it by doing weekly soo...if all you want to know if twice a month is a good thing the answer is yessssss

I do 25% a week. I could never imagine letting my corals sit in the same water for a month....that's crazy

I don't change regularlly but sometimes change only small amount of water. Always fill evaporated water with RODI Water.

I read an article somewhere that stated bigger water changes actually get more "bad stuff" out and replace it with as close to NSW as we can get. Therefore I do one monthly 30% change and it has worked out very well for me.

i change 20% every 4-8 weeks, but a lfs has a display with lots of acros, all doing really well and he hasnt' changed water in 9 months.

I change 20g/75g=26.6% first weekend of every month. This way I am able to keep a stable system easier with the two part.

I believe water changes in themselves can be just as much turmoil as anything else, becaue lets face it, I doubt most take the time to prep the water days in advance and "perfectly" match it. If you are, congratulations keep up the good work, I think you are the minority. In the end, that rapid shift could be potentially dangerous, though to a very small percentage of risk.

Though I am not condoning no water changes or more, I have found this system has worked best for me to maintain stability the easiest.

I think water changes are kind of a "do-over" when your nitrates or Alk/CA get out of balance, and to refresh trace elements. But all three have been found to be controlled otherways. So I guess the real question is....Have we gotten to the point chemistry speaking not to do any? We have all heard of those unicorn tanks that don't get changed....ever.

If some are under the impression that the water gets old, well you are replenishing with top-off, so in theory if your tank is "really" in balance, ie: nutrients in and out, then water changes should, and I say "technically" not be necessary. Because the water is as fresh, clean, and stable as when you changed it last.

If you have a hard time with daily husbandry, then yes more water changes the better. I do believe there was an article about doing little water changes frequently or large ones infrequently, or infinitly ie: constant supply, here on RC. But can't remember why, but thats part of the reason I do only change once a month. Anybody know the link?

i do prepare mine days in advance. I don't match it up, but I do add it back slowly, so any differences are slowly equalized.

i do about 40gal ever coupld f weeks or so. make the water a few days in advance, check the levels and dump it all in. i do top off everyday with 5gal and just dump it all right into the sump, no slow drip or anything like that. everything seems fine soo far

10% per week to keep new minerals in and old water out. Too much water change messes up your levels, stressing your livestock. Consistancy is key. If you have a bad skimmer and no u/v or ozone, bump it up to compensate for dirtier water.

Anywhere from 25-30 gallons every few months (usually corresponding to an anemone spawn, which happens about that often).

50% weekly here, but I've got some massive tanks, and some huge water reservoirs to hold the water change water :)
