Hi,

I have 2 x 250W HQI, and 4 x 54W T5 HO bulbs. If I run the T5s for 7 hours a day and the MH for only 2 hours (noon burst) will that be enough for my SPS?

Thanks,

PJ

75 gallon with 20 gallon sump.

Reactor 1: NextReef MR1 with Rowaphos
Reactor 2: NextReef MR1 with Activated Carbon
Reactor 3: Korallin BioDenitrator (~1 drop per second)

Skimmer: Reef Octopus NW150

Salt, mixed to 1.027 sg using Seachme Salinity

I already have great poly extension running the halides for 5 hours but I would like to know if getting that down to 2 will have a detrimental effect on growth.

I would say in general yes. If you arent reaching photoinhibition then yes it will be detrimental to growth hands down but if the coral you have dont need high par then the T5's are enough by themselves im sure depending on bulbs used. I just dont see the need to have them on at all if youre only gonna do 2 hours. Why do you want to do this?

Yeah, you don't need the halides, unless you want them for looks when you are home for viewing purposes.

Or.......

Get a bigger tank. Those lights will work for a 48" 120g setup & you can experiment with the 2-5 hour window on the halides.
