Here is my problem. I have one male lyretail antias in my tank now. I just order 2 females from liveaquaria and when they came in today I got one male and one female. I have a 180 gallon sps dominated reef tank. I dont know if the existing male will kill the new male if I put him in the tank. I guess I could put the fish in my sump and try and sell it on one of our local forum. Any suggestions?
thanks
Jeff

Call live aquaria and have them send you a female. They have excellent customer service. Most likely they will let you keep the extra male as well since they wouldn't want you to ship it back.

We have called and all they want to see is a pic of the fish which I am working on now. I just need to know if I can put the second male in the tank or qt him and try and sell. My original male is mostly the dark orange color but has the finage of a male. The new fish has the finage of a male but the coloration is lighter in color with the darker purple/lavender colored fins.
thanks

I purchased a trio from Live Aquaria Divers Den. 2 females and one male. The largest female has recently started to change to a male and fast. Her transformation is almost complete after about a week I would guess. I have had the trio for almost 3 months. The old male now stays on one side of the tank and doesn't really bother anyone anymore. The changed female however is super aggressive towards the other female and tries to bully other fish smaller than her. Once in a while the 2 males square off in a stare down then they both open their mouths and circle around each other vigorously. No damage yet but its coming.

Now I tell you this because these fish have been around each other for some time. Adding a 2nd male to one that is already established in a system is really asking for trouble. Don't let them see each other. I have spent the last 4 days trying to trap the changing female in my system, trust me, you don't want to go through the same thing.
