Two Mouths

My blue Ricordia has two mouths. Does this mean he is beginning to split, and if he is, could I help with the process with a rubber band. Thanks

it might... but it might take a LONG time if it will do it naturally. I have a ric right now with 7 mouths. IMO, the better indicator of splitting is when it starts to pinch itself around the edges...

What I have done in the past is let them grow out to full size and if they dont actually manage to detatch I either leave them be.. or if I need to move one or want to move one I'll just take some very sharp medical scissors or a razor blade and split the two in one smooth motion in the extra area between the mouths.

This is so very common among ricordia florida. I was really surprised though at my LFS there is actually a yuma of all things with 2 mouths on it. I am waiting to see what it does - like if it will split off like a florida or what. Never saw a yuma with 2 mouths before

The amount of mouths on a ric doesn't mean anything other than it's growing bigger. Just cut it with a razor blade, right down the middle, one mouth on each side. You dont have to detach it from the rock or anything and you'll have 2 rics in a week. I do it all the time
