Two Mp40s too much on 75gal w/ LPS?

My father has 2 old Mp40s lying around that I would like to upgrade to the new Ecotech quietdrive driver for my new tank that is 75gal, 48" wide w/ 1/2 inch glass(can't use Mp10s) and 25g sump. It will mostly be LPS dominated with maybe an SPS here and there. Looking at the flow charts, it looks like the lowest setting for the Mp40's is 1000gph.

So if I had two running, one on each side wall, at a minimum it would be dishing out 2000gph.. just seems like it would be way way to much flow for LPS. Lowest setting would be 20x turnover of tank volume!

I've thought maybe just put one in, but then it will leave the far end with severely low flow, what do you all think?

mp10's work just fine on 1/2 glass.

When I upgraded my biocube to an 80G with 12mm starfire glass I was worried at first about them not working, but after using them now for nearly 8 months, all is fine. Only thing I have noticed is when I turn them on to 100% they tend to get warmer then they used to on thinner glass.

I would agree that even on the lowest setting, 2 mp40's might be a little too much flow for a large amount of LPS's.

I have one (new) mp40 on one end of my 4ft 75 gal. On 50℅ power the polyps on the far end of the tank are swaying. I don't think " severely low flow" would be an accurate description, although I do plan to add an mp10 to cover a small area of lower flow and add some cross flow in the future, but another mp40 would be overkill. I would say start with one mp40 and see how you feel. Depending on your rock and coral placement it may hold you for some time.

Thanks for the input. I think I will try to sell of my Mp40's and buy one Mp10 and test to see if it holds on my 1/2 inch glass. I have read mixed reviews on if it actually holds on 1/2, some say if you just tap it, it may fall. 12mm is == .47 inches, so that .03 really could mean something here.

I run two mp40s on my tank. One set as reef crest, the other antisync, both set at 60%. Left one is 8" from the front glass about 8" down on the left side panel. The right is about 16" from the front panel and also down about 8" on the right panel

I have herd mixed reviews also about the mp10 and 1/2" glass. That's the only reason I don't have those. I heard they hold but any light bump and the separate. .

Do you feel like the pumps are too powerful for your LPS? I have a torch, hammer, acans, blasto, mushroom leather and an RTBA. Will most likely get a frogspwan too. I see you have a mixed reef in your signature. I'd much rather use what I have if I can and not have to worry about glass thickness.

I love it. Both of mine are ran off my apex. I like having the extra power at hand. Every night for 1hr after lights out apex cranks them up to 90% nutrient transport mode. Stirs craps up and helps when cleaning the tank IMO. Yeah I have a few high flow areas, and some very low flow areas. But coral placement is key. I've had nothing but luck, but to each their own.

Awesome, nice tank  I would definitely get the WXM module to control them too. Worst case scenario if I upgrade the driver to quiet drive, new wet side and the RF module added, I could always sell them for pretty good. I'm essentially just using the old dry side.

How's the connection between the RF chip and the WXM module? I was looking at the Ecotech Reeflink reviews and people said they dropped connection to the mp40s a lot, not sure if those same connection issues are seen with the WXM module?

I've honestly never lost connection. I may even be a little further than the average away since I have an in wall tank and fish room. It's about 8' away, same as my AWM, never any issues between either.

I will agree that any little bump will cause the dry side to fall off on my 12mm glass. But I already had them, and my tank is in a location where the pumps hardly ever get bumped.

Also just to note, I've never had an issue with the WXM and the pumps loosing connection to the apex.
