Two Part CA/ALK ingredients in Bay Area

I've noticed that when people say that stuff is available at Home Depot, what the really mean to say is, it's available from any Home Depot that is no where remotely near the Bay Area.

OK, that said, I want to get cheap and make my own 2 Part solution and wondered if anyone is making it locally (nearer to San Jose the better) and gets their ingredients locally.... sounds like I need Dow Flakes (or various equivalents) Baking Soda (should be able to find that easy enough) and to make the occasional part 3 i need, "Epsom salts (3 cups) and magnesium chloride hexahydrate sold by the Dead Sea Works company"

If not possible to buy local and suggestions are welcome.

Yeah we don't get much snow here so that limits the availability lol. I ended up ordering my stuff all online, but it lasts forever since I've got like 50 lbs of each reagent.

Yeah, I don't have to de-ice my drive too often

Got a good value supplier for a deal on the 50Ibers ?

Thanks

I recently came back from the Tahoe area, and while they do have de-icing products there, I couldn't find any useful stuff.

I decided to buy two 32 cup portions each of the calcium chloride and magnesium chloride from this site rather than bother setting up my calcium reactor again. Along with my kalkwasser reactor, this should have me set up for quite awhile. They are making quite a profit considering a 50-pound bag of each can be found for under $20 in iced over areas of the country, but I don't have the time or energy to find a huge bag locally (probably impossible) or bring home boxes of deicer with me when I visit my in-laws in Massachusetts.

I'm not sure if reefnutrition selling them but Gresham gave me some premix bottles (kalk, Cal and mag). All the bottles have reefnutrition labels.

Has anyone ordered Dowflake/Magflake from Buckeye Field Supply? They sell 16 cups for $12 for each.

I need some Magflake, so I was thinking of ordering from there.

The shipping on an order of Dowflakes and an order of mag flakes is about 23 Bucks from them.... I have the exact cost somewhere at home. YOu can check with them, they were very responsive to email on Sunday even.

I have some from my last order, but you're no where near SF.

I was in Reno last week and I bought a magnesium pellet. It says "Vaporizer Ice Milter". It also says on the container "SAFE FOR VEGETATION AND ENVIRONMENT".

Bought in Kmart Reno. I also saw some calcium chloride de-icer there but I didn't buy cause I already have a CA reactor.

Wasn't someone trying to get a LFS to repackage these? Natural Life I thought.
Gresham is getting the super pure stuff for his basement experiments. You need to use the bottles he gives you in a room with a black light and lave lamp. Only LE corals may apply.

Perfect for "Sierra Cement" :D

What a horrible year for snowfall fun in the Sierras and Utah. I wonder why Colorado has been so lucky the past two years.

I'm moving to dosing the 2-part and bought the 50lb bag of dowflake online. It cost me about $57 total and should last quite a while. Way cheaper than going thru Buckeye or TwoPartSolutions...

Through whom did you buy the your dowflake, Art?

Adrian, you might be interested in the "hardness plus" sold by Leslie's swimming pool supplies, and they have stores locally. Last time I went there and checked their book on chemical content, and it looks very pure to me. There are also some threads here talking about it. Good price considering no shipping and hassles.

Without going back to the description of the MAGflake part of the recipe, I don't think you need as much do you? So a smaller purchase would be cool.

Thanks for the info.

Lapsan (Orientalexpress) had a link on Leslie's Hardness Plus a few month ago. I got the MSDS sheet from them and it's 90-97% Calcium Chloride. They used Dow most of the time and another company sometime but I heard both should be OK to use. I bought a 8lbs bucket for $16.99 yesterday. There is a store in San Jose / Campbell border on 1355 South Bascom Ave in San Jose.

As for the Baking Soda, Costco sell a really big bag for cheap. I forgot how much I paid. They also have Epsom Salt there.
