Two Salifert calcium test kits with totally different results!

Both test were done at the exact same time with the same water sample.

Calcium Test kit #1 (exp: 04/2013) - 435ppm
Calcium Test kit #2 (exp: 07/2013) - 470ppm

Witch results should I trust?

Both results are acceptable. There is a degree of inaccuracy in all test kits. I would not worry about that small of a difference myself. :)

This seems to be an ongoing theme lately with Salifert kits. My last mag test kit was almost 250 off. That is unacceptable. It seems lately like my most reliable kits have been API. I know that cal and alk kits seem to be dead on. As far as salifert goes they have defiantly lost my business, and there is no way to contact them anymore. They are Junk IMO. And expensive.

The topic of test kits always seems to raise doubts of their accuracy. :)

I have used API & Salifert with good results as long as the test kits are less than 1 year old. I believe that the expiration date surpasses the one year mark though. Once the test kit is over one year than I have had both API and Salifert give me poor results.

HighlandReefer, wouldn't you agree that we are hearing alot more about problems with Salifert kits latley? Just seems like they are going down hill to me.

There is a reason why Salifert was removed as a sponsor on this forum.

If a calcium test kit is expired. Would the reading be lower or higher?

The newer test kit is reading a higher number.

IME, the test kits for alk seem to be more of a problem. As they get older, they tend to read higher. Again, my experience is limited to Salifert and API. I know Randy had an old Salifert Alk. kit that read quite a bit higher. I think Randy is now using his own methods for checking alk. :)

Salifert is currently a sponsor of RC. :)

I still wouldn't trust Salifert even though some kits come with the reference solution some reefers reported that they results were still off. I would only get API,Lamotte,or Elos. I use API for CA,Lamotte for Kh and Elos for Mg. I've tested API against Lamotte with near results.
