So.... I saw this clam at an LFS a few days ago. I loved the colors, but didn't have time to further inspect or take home and acclimate, so I put it on hold. Today was the last "hold" day, but I'm sick with the flu, so I sent hubby to the LFS to get it. It was labeled a crocea clam, but now that I have it, I'm thinking it looks more like a maxima....
You guys may know that my tank is only 29g (the reason I only wanted a crocea).
Here are some pics:

How fast should I expect this clam to out-grow my tank?? :(

Update - I named the clam Eddie and decided to go ahead and move him lower in the tank, but found him already partly attached. He was only attached by a very thin strand, so I thought if I gave just a small amount of pressure, he might change his mind and let go. Well...... I'm sure you all know what happened here. The little strand broke - really I swear it was not very much pressure! I feel awful...... The rest of his underside looks fine. I moved him to the sand bed and he seems very happy there. I guess I'll just have to monitor him closely at this point.
Any takers on the id?

hard to tell with the blurry pic but it looks like a Maxima. Most all clams brought into the trade are Maxima and sometimes get mis-labeled. I may be wrong with this one, but that what it looks like to me.

Damn..... this is what I thought.
Funny the chain of events here..... me being sick and sending hubby to pick it up for me :) I totally forgot I hadn't yet taken a closer look at the clam - just liked the coloration.
How long do I have folks? I'm guessing this guy will out-grow my tank in a year - sound about right?

it will take much longer than a year for it to grow the width of your tank 12inch. i'd say it will take about 5 years with the right amount of magnesium in the tank. potentially longer. and if you really like it you can put it length wise and keep it forever. as well it is a maxima.

I think it will take at least several years. I've had one for about 1.5 years and it has grown from about 2 inches to about 4.5 inches. They need bright light.Maxima goes a maximum of l6 inches.
