ULNS and SPS x LPS

Hello Guys,

I have a mixed tank here, a predominant SPS but I also have some kinds of LPS and softs.

I´m having some trouble with some SPS, there are fading

I´m sure that my nano reef are in ULNS.

I have excellent growth rates on my SPS, LPS and softs and all of them are always full expose.

But I think is strange my LPS and Soft are doing fine in a ULNS and my SPS are fading.

I have just a pair of clown here, but I feed my tank every other day
with reefchilli, phito and zoo

My system :

50G nano reef
Skimmer Deltec AP 701
HQI 250W 14.5K and 4 x T5 24W ATI Blue plus
No3 = Po4 = 0
Ca = 420 ppm
Alk = 8 dKH
Mg = 1300 ppm

I´m thinking in try potassium, iron and lugol to see if my SPS get better color

What do you guys think about that ??

Here are some pictures :

FTS ( see my LPS, doing fine ) :

Here my green mille....I think something is lacking here, the coral are very light

I think some softies and LPS are highly adaptable. Perhaps they are getting all the nutrients before the SPS have a chance to feed.

You might try spot feeding the SPS or adding some Amino Acids.

What kind of light cycle are you running?
Reduce your light cycle if you think they are getting too much light.

+1

maybe in a small volume of water lps as great filters can consume all nutrientes available quickly. Also you have a powerful skimmer for your tank volume. Try to target/over feed then.

+2, also alot of lps are great "hunters" it's awesome to witness a coral catch pods. they will also eat meaty foods with gusto

Adding pottasium and a few drops of iron are both very good ideas but I would first get a pottasium test kit to find out what your present levels and I would try to maintain around 380-400ppm.

Try feeing them oyster eggs, or something, when i feed my fish I use rods food and I just get the pipette full of water that I thawed the food in and squirt it around my acros, it's got tons of little pieces of food and right after they get alot more pe.

Corals need food in a ULNS. Give them AA and other similar food.

But I´m feeding with AA from zeovit , reefchilli, zoo and phito

Maybe I have to feed really heavy

Best Regards

Some people only run Halides 6 hours. I think the double ended bulbs may be a little more powerful.

Some Acropora Milliporas, for example, only need 3 watts per gallon. where you have over twice that. With your super clear water it's even more intense.

It might seem fine with the Softies and LPS doing so well but they are highly adaptable.

I´m going to turn off my skimmer for one week and only 3 hours of halides and 8 hours for T5

Let´s see next week the results

Whoa!!!

Take it slow...you would be surprised what one or two hours off the halides will do.

They may end up turd brown if you cut em down to 3 hours from 8 hours.

I suggest you cut your halides off an hour or two earlier. Wait a week and see if there is an improvement in your coral. If not, THEN turn off the skimmer. You want to single out the problem, not introduce more variables by changing more than one thing at a time.

wow those things are pale!
1) i wouldn't shut off your skimmer - they do more then just clean the water they help keep c02 levels in check and thereby moderate ph swings as well as keeping o2 levels at saturturation. if you feel the need just set it to skim dryer

2) keep feeding, add a couple fish or just feed the lps heavier.

3) taper off the photoperiod - you have a ton of light with 4 t5's and a 250 halide over a 50g. you could probably run the t5's about 10 - 12 hours but use the halide just to simulate that "high noon" effect - say 4 hours. you could also try to go bluer with a 20k bulb if it suits your taste. honestly believe it or not you could probably run that tank with just the 4 t5's if they have quality reflectors so i wouldn't worry a bit about backing off the mh photoperiod

Ok, I´m going to cut 3 hours of HQI and keep the skimmer ON

I was thinking in buy the ATI powermodule for T5

My doubt is , 6x or 8x T5 ?

Maybe this setup :

1 Blue plus
2 Aqua Blue Special
3 Pro color
4 Aqua Blue special
5 Actinic
6 Blue Plus
7 ?
8 ?

This should be enough ?

Best Regards

Why do you want to buy new T5 light fixtures?

I like the ATI powermodule :lol:

Today I have just four T5....and I think the quality of ATI powermodule is the best
