Ultimate 20G Setup Journal - Pic Intense

Lagger, I mounted the pendant that way just because that's the way it fit the best. With such a small tank footprint then I doubt there really is much difference, but I've been wrong before :)

Stocking day is still quite a ways off. I've had to be extremely patient with this build due to money and time. While the wait is driving me crazy, I think the tank has benefited from it. I've had many opportunities to tweak various aspects of the setup without risking any livestock.

2639, thanks for the info. I didn't know they made AC fans that small. I'd love a diagram if it isn't a big deal. I've said before, I'm dumb when it comes to wiring up electrical stuff.

Just found this thread today. It made me want to dig out the 35g cube out of the basement and start a build.
AWESOME!!!!

I know! This thread has made me itch to build ANYTHING LOL

DSparks I'll try to find a small AC fan for you and get you a diagram as soon as possible ;) Since tomorrow is gobble day, it might be Friday at the earliest :D

BTW, anyone have any experience with the Tunze Nanostreams yet? I'm debating getting two of them and putting them on a wavetimer to alternate flow. I know I'm going to need more flow than what the sump is putting out right now.

This may be overkill big time. I'm just toying with the idea.

Hey, no rush on that diagram 2639. Enjoy your turkey and we'll catch up on the other side of the holiday.

Thanks finless! Dig out that 35g and start a thread so that we can follow along :)

The early information i had was that it could work on a standard wavemaker. However, at the meeting we had after the show I was told this is not recommended. The start up mechanism is noisy when used with and will be damaged by a standard wavemaker and at least 5 minutes between off and on cycles and ideally at least 15 is recommended. Basically a fancy timer or a controller like a neptune or aquacontroller should be fine but one of the wavemakers that switches the pumps off and on in a matter of seconds is not acceptable.

Hmm, doesn't sound like putting the nanostreams on a wavemaker is a good idea. I'm really thinking 2 of the 6025's will be way too much in a 20G if they are running simultaneously.

im geting my 6025??? nano stream this week and will be setting it up saturday...ill take pics but its goin on a 125 ill let u no how the flow is...o and btw i dont think there made to be on a wavemaker other then tunzes cause of the startup i think but i could be wrong anyway i updated my thread if u wana see

Hey guys , I know this is not relavant to this thread but, What is this pico skimmer , the Euro reef for nanos? I loved my euro reef.
Thanks , sorry for the intrusion

Hey DSparks... just checked back in to see the progress. Looking good. I like the mounting bracket for the light. Looks similar to a mounting idea i saw on here before, lol. Honestly though, if you did see my mounting idea and modify it to your needs then that would still mean that i owe you more ideas for all the ideas i took from your setup for my own.

I will be checking back to follow the progress. Check out my update to my thread tomorrow and let me know what you think.

Have a good turkey day.

I too just found this thread...I'm very seriously considering building a stand VERY similar to yours...I'm not sure I'll be using a hood like yours but you never know...I'm putting together a 24g Nano Cube DX, so I won't need the hood (right now) for lighting but I may use it to "tidy" the whole setup...definitely following this one... :D

[:Edit]By the way, can you either post some detailed drawings of your stand...or at least some the different measurements of your stand...I'd like to compare this to what I have in mind for the stand I need to build...PM would be fine if you prefer...

I'm doing a setup very similar to yours right now and I got a 175w MH pennant that I'm going to hang in my canopy. How high is you light, and the bottom of the fixture from the top of the water?

Sweet! Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Yes, I did see where Roger from Tunze said not to run them on fast switching wavemakers. He said that once they are off you should wait 15 minutes before starting them back up. I may end up putting my two on timers so that only one is running at a time. Maybe alternate them every 6 hours. Sorta like the changing of the tides.

Hi Hammer. Hadn't heard from ya in a while. Actually, I saw the bar at Lowes while rummaging through the metal section and worked up the plan while standing in the isle. I debated using the "C" shaped channel, but went with the flat instead (which, believe it or not, was more expensive).

I haven't been over to your thread lately. I'll swing over and see how you are progressing. Are you also using a PFO pendant?

I'm out of town at the family farm right now, so it'll probably early next week before I can get you some dimensions. In all honesty, I didn't really draw up a plan. I "used the force" and built it as I went. I do this a lot. Sometimes it works out great, other times I end up with a pile of fire wood ;)

I'll take some measurements and try to put something together for you. If you're going with a cube then your stand will likely need to be quite different in size and shape though.

Being out of town I'll have to guess. I'm thinking the light is about 6 inches from the waterline. The bottom of the pendant is probably around 3 inches from the waterline. It ended up a little tighter than I wanted under the hood.

lookin good show some fts when u get a chance...ill see if my nano stream is in tomorrow i think shipping got messed up cause of thanksgiving but ill update you tomorrow on the nano stream

u just inspired me to go out and buy a 20g tank....2morrow i'm on my way to petland discounts......i dunno if i should keep my 70w MH or get a new 150w.....i'm gonna add 72w's of PC's if i keep my 70w

This seems to be a great setup, I am particularly impressed with the stand. You have an eye for detail, I hope to emulate some of this into my own 25g in progress!

Warr, if you can manage it I say go with the 150W. By using a 14K Phoenix bulb I don't need any actinic supplementation. Of course, it boils down to personal taste when considering your bulb color.

Thanks Titus. Start a thread and let us see how your setup progresses. I've received tons of great advice through this thread. It makes the effort well worth it.
