Ultimate Makeovers! (sump edition)

Well spent 7hrs of Friday on my knees taking down my whole sump system, cleaning everything, and putting it back together. In Fasion!

I (as most of you know) got the Aquacontroller Jr., and need to remove one power strip and install the new one, well I ended up getting a new skimmer (Red Sea Berlin Turbo 18 blade impeller from dominga in Millwaukee) and decided to just do one big over haul on the sump (it was time to clean some of the stuff anyways) And I had another wavemaking powerstrip to install. Had to redo some of the plumbing and made new bubble traps (thankx Jason for the bio-balls) And re organized some of my chord mess.

So enjoy the pics, it was a chore! (I had to show off to somebody though, all that work for "behind the scenes" :))

thats right, I forgot those hinges have a quick release, maybe next time.

Wish I had quick release side panels for my stand too, would have made life easier. (Maybe a project ill do when I have to move it)

Nice skimmer Brian! Now I'm really glad I didn't stop by this weekend or you would have put me to work. Just kidding... kind of.

ill be doing this soon too, but i have to drain my entire tank first. My sump only loads from the back of the stand. I was stupid to use a 29 gallon high tank as a sump. It's just too tall for the inside of my stand, which:
1. Makes cleaning very hard
2. My skimmer wont fit in the sump
3. There's just no room for anything else

:-(

:eek1: Oh no! That will make my job look easy.

Your sump does look hard to get at, my fuge side is tight, and I have more room than you do. Could you fit 2 15g under there 16x12x24 (HxWxL) under there where the short end faces out? Then drill them so one flows into the other (like my setup but I have one raised, you don't need to do this if you drill both tanks, I didn't cause drilling 10's isn't fun (is it Jason?) ) What were you thinkin of putting under there?

Get a list of things you want done and do it all at once. It took me so long to do mine cause I had a whole page of stuff I wanted to do while I had the elbow room in there to do so. I still need to organize my fire hazzard looking chord mess!

I thought I warned you about clearance TJ?

Yeah you may have. It's not really that big of a deal. I can still clean the sump, but I will just have to find a different skimmer than the AquaC that I'm currently using. It all depends on how adventurous I get. My tank has been coming along so good, I don't feel like taking it down again.

Bri-Guy... I absolutely love the green star polyp frag, its so much cooler than what I had before. Thanks again!

TJ, what are you not liking about the Aqua C? I can set you up with a Red Sea Prism....buddy... real easy to maintain!

Stack some block next to your system, get some 1" hose, and we'll drain it in about a minute, move it, and refill it. Then you can patch the plumbing and spend about 6 weeks rebuilding it the way you want. When done, we can move it back- The worst case, everythings out of water for... 2.5 minutes... I did that when I moved the 30 out of the way to build the 75 prop. And again when I moved it back to culture the 75 prop with the same water and system.... Everything made it just fine.

If there was something you were worried about, put it in a bowl on the bar till your done.

That way, you can frittle with it till your hearts content, then... move it back. Now that you know what you want to change, it should be easier.

actually I love my aqua C but I hate that I have to hang it on my tank instead of putting it in my sump. Just one more eye sore, ya know? Defeats the whole purpose of having the tank drilled.

Wow, your that tight that you can't fit the Aqua C in your 29 gallon sump? Ever think about putting maybe a 15 gallon and a 5 gallon in your cabinet?

well, the aquac remora is the big long rectangular thingy...it just barely fits. Other cylinder skimmers may fit though.

Bri,
I see your make-over, and raise you one top off resivour that is...

Sealed,
Self filling - on a timer
filtered - all ro/di/carbon treated water is also being treated with phos sponge... if that's my source...
and is connected to another float valve one the main system(s) and prop tank

Thanks for the tank Ken and Brian!

Funny thing is your ATO tank is the same size as my "Show Tank"

Show off :)

Look at all that space under it, you should put another tank under there!!!

Is your frag tank hooked up to the upstairs tanks system?

Not yet on both accounts.... Not yet that I will probably put a second 30 gallon under this one for mixing salt, and not yet that I have strongly considered joining the 2 systems - I have a plan, and a 90 gallon sump, but where to locate it is the delima.

So Bri, what kind of Skimmer did you go with? I am thinking like I mentioned to you. About reworking my fuge and perhaps going with a typhoon III...

I love your whole tank setup!

I just got the Berlin Turbo Skimmer, Got a great deal on it, and it pulls twice as much skim as my Seaclown did. Way less tampering with it.

Thankx
