I'm afraid he will die if i don't do something is this there way of acting in a new tank. Never had an undulted before. Anybody please help

Thank's

The Undulated will be a nightmare and will eventually probably kill all your inhabitants by harassing or direct attack. Most books on Reef fish say these are best kept in a tank to themselves.

If he does die, it might be a blessing in disguise. Be sure and read heavily on a fish species before adding to a tank. Will save you a lot of headaches later on.

You have some beautiful fish already that would be a shame too lose. If the fish does pull through, take him back for store credit or whatever you can do. Try a nice pinktail, blue jaw or such for a less dominating trigger.

Did your Undulate make it out alive?

I agree with the prior post... I am suprised that Undy is even acting sick... with all the meals to be had in that tank!

Undulates are one of the easiest fish to keep, very hardy, but in that tank, I would have paid to see the look if that Undy was healthy!

Yea, how did he fare? I too am interested. BTW, I have found Mitchell's books on reef fishes an outstanding resource. At first I thought it was a lot of money, but you know, you lose 3 $50 fish and it adds up pretty quick!!

Hey guy's that's for the replies. No The Trigger did not make it i guess it was a blessing that he did not make. I really did not do my homework. Next time i will do that. I could have lost alot of my fish in my tank.

Thank's Again

Just as a FYI, I have an undulated trigger with a lion, tangs, puffers, goby and he's doing great. I think that part of it is how he's introduced to the tank and when. But it can be done.

I tried introducing last, a 7" undy, into my 150G FOWLR with other aggressive fish but he was just too mean. He bullied my 7" clown trigger who is no wimp I tell you. He's now in a 90G on his own and he'll have to stay alone too as I won't trust any fish with him. My undy is a complete nutcase and even goes straight for my hand when I have it in the tank.

Howser, how big is your undy? If it's small (3" or less) I guess you may have some success for a while but 5-6" plus and I think he'll start killing your other fish. I'd personally get a tank ready to house your undy on it's own or be prepared for havoc down the line

LOL -- you're probably right. My Undy is small (about 3") but I can imagine him creating havoc of his own. I don't have the resources for a separate tank, so if you see him for sale in a year or so....you know what happened. :)

I had an undy for about 4 months and thought all this "super aggressive" talk was bogus until I woke up one day and had three dead fish.

Well, there are two ways to learn. The way through research and learning from the experience of others. Then there is the expensive way. ; )

I saw a 4" undulate trigger at the LFS yesterday. Very beautiful creatures. Too bad they're so aggressive.

I agree, I talked to my LFS guy tonight, he said he had one that he couldn't sell so he had to just leave it in a tank by itself until someone finally bought it. He had it for quite some time. So now, I'm looking for a home for my guy. With the risk of him hurting my other fish and it just being a matter of time, I figure I better start planning...

Too bad people dont do a little understanding before they purchase... I did the same thing as the original poster, about 4 years ago... ever since I have had an Undy pretty much on her own. Two heaters, fish, clams, shrimp, crabs everything. She has finally excepted one other tank mate... though I think it is a very hate/hate realtionship.

Well, in my case I inherited the trigger, and since then he's been the most resilient (perhaps not by chance) of the bunch, so the family has developed an attachment to him...

I for one am quite fond of the badd@ss, heater wrecking, silicon ripping, power head tossing attitude. You have to know what you getting before you get one for sure! I had mine in with a few fish for near a year now, but things slowly changed....aggression was setting in so she was bumped to my QT until my new system is running.
