Union questions

I'm in the process of planning my plumbing for a new setup and I'm going to be adding unions. But I noticed something. If I decide to redo the setup, do they sell just the part of the union that the pipe connects to or do I have to buy a whole new union connection? I've tried searching plumbing sites where they sell the stuff and I can't seem to find it. Maybe it's cause I don't know the exact name of the piece? Same for true union valves, I'd like to be able to reuse the valve if I decide to change the setup for whatever reason.

I don't think anybody is going to sell half or partial unions. And not all unions are the same. I have some that are for the same size pipe but have different threads. Buy a couple of spares.

I bought some male and female threaded adapters that I was going f to add to each end of the unions and valves but they add about 3 inches to each side which means around 6 inches for each union and I just don't have the room for it. I guess I'll just buy more if needed

I have found unions to not be very cost effective.You can cut out and replace for any changes you are doing as quick and way cheaper then using unions..

Now they are good in locations such as before and after equipment you need to remove for maintenance such as pumps and reactors.. But still yet i try to put rubber or vinyl tubing between these items to help reduce noise ...

Just my opinion and its prob rare.. Also added to my reasoning is i keep a large assortment of plumbing pipe and fittings in my Van as i do a lot of small plumbing repairs as part of my Home Renovation Company ...

ohh if you use screw on fittings Use Teflon sealer in a tube not tape..

Very good point. And thanks for the tip! I've never heard of Teflon sealer, I'll have to check it out

Exactly what she said!!! Look for PTFE paste - right next to the PVC cement
