Unique: A Reefing Journal: A Look Back & A Movement Forward

Changed it around to be more suitable to a zoa/paly display. Also to accomadate better flow.

I have 32 different morphs at the moment. With a really nice purple hornet from Phil that was added this weekend. Not anticipating them all making it as some don't seem too happy right now, but that is normal IMO. But most are doing well. I have 10 more columns for them to add. Maybe a few more.

I really hate the frag rack in there... The stand pipes don't bother me nearly as much.

As it stands now, I've scored a baby purple tang for 65 bucks which I am supposed to pick up this weekend when the gentleman gets back from Georgia. So I'm stoked on that. I'll be upgrading to a 75g in a month or two, so no worries there.

I've been pretty fortunate with purple tangs, this will be my third, and I would have paid a total of 125 bucks for all 3 ;)

If anyone has seen Ron's tank since last September, you will see the larger purple tang that I kept for 2 1/2 years until he adopted him. The 2nd was also donated to a fellow member. I'm stoked to be acquiring another. A baby too, and a great price, lol.

Here you can see what I hope to end up being a center piece sps. A red planet from usefulidiot's (Patrick) sweet colony/system he had until recently. Happy to have a frag from it. Hopefully it does good. Only time will tell. Sps are not my main concern now, but 1 nice one, or maybe two or 3 when I upgrade, would make for a nice addition to the look and display I'm hoping to have in the long run.

Why my look is so blue. Just something I'm trying for now.

Does not look so blue in person, actually looks really good with the 4 blue plus' & 2 true actinics.

<a href="http://s842.photobucket.com/user/thestomp1978/media/Mobile%20Uploads/916DE016-6DCD-46DD-8267-427F76C04AE6_zpsrbqxw1lq.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz344/thestomp1978/Mobile%20Uploads/916DE016-6DCD-46DD-8267-427F76C04AE6_zpsrbqxw1lq.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 916DE016-6DCD-46DD-8267-427F76C04AE6_zpsrbqxw1lq.jpg"/></a>

And the 2 sections of columns still to be added. One on each side of the taller structure in the back side of the display.

Should create a nice tiered look when it all comes together. The 75g will have this same sorta look.

And an absolutely beautiful frag from Phil and a incredible price as well. 4 full grown and established polyps of purple hornets. Matting out and about to pop out more if it a climates well to my system. Time will tell. The bottom of the plug was dremeled off and they were just mounted to a column just minutes before this pic. Just wanted to show the great frag. Phil hooked me up with. Thanks again dude.

Love it Neal, tank looks good. I love my blue tank as well, just doesn't photo well, but hey, looks good from my house lol. Love my Purple Tang too, nice pick up. Glad you got one again. Last question, what sets atop the masterpiece? Something special?

So I took a trip up to Boston today to meet up with some fellow BRS members and scored myself a purple tang today. Got him cheap as he was in a very small slow tank. He is showing the signs as he has some head for and lateral line, and wasn't fed the proper diet. However he is young, and was nearly free (considering the price they usually go for), and I've brought back two other purples with great success in the past. Got him in my 40 now, again, he is pretty small. And I will feed him well and make sure he gets lots of greens, which he wasn't getting previously. It may take me some time to get him on them, but persistence should over come that.

Also, confirmed the acquisition of a nice deep blue 75g edge rimless in about 4 to 5 weeks when the current owners upgrade has finished its cycle, so that is sweet ;)

By then the purple tang should be doin much better, and I can get him into a proper home.

Between now and then, I'm gonna work on constructing an ATS, and get that figured out before hand.

Good day for reefing! Lol

Oh, and I'm lining up a couple zoa packs from a couple locals in the next couple weeks, so that is cool too ;)

Well, it took 3 days, but the purple tang ate nori today and good size sheet of it. So that's a good sign.

Also, I've been going back and forth on it, and I once again went back to barebottom. Put some carbon in the reactor afterwards to help clean up whatever might have came up into the water column by doing so. Gonna let that go until the morning then shut it down again. Switched over to mesh filter socks and got away from the felt. Now I really wana concentrate on settin up a decent algae turf scrubber.

Curious... what swayed you?

I actually decided after two days that barebottom was not a good idea and I was putting a serious dent in my bio filtration. So I put some of it back. Besides, I have two fish that depend on the sand for shelter, and I could not keep them in my 20g with my new lobster, they would become lunch eventually, lol

Here is the red reef lobster in an acclimation box the other day upon introduction. Already been feeding him squid.

So I got some filter gels from a photographer to work on my pic taking with my iPhone. I'm actually really happy with them, they work really well. First some more wide angle shots of a lot that you have seen already. Usually the pics are much more blue.
