It does look like a mangrove!!! Those things are good to eat!!!! Of course when he is regulation size ;)

yeah the nice thing about mangrove's is that they only have to be 10". at that size they still have that sweet young meat. red snapper is also great, publix has been run sales on it like mad. go gators!

boo gators. Tennessee played crappy at the end. So did the Noles. :( Haha. The Noles will get the Gators in November though.

I have a mangrove snapper in a tank at school. I can't tell by that pic for sure, but how you are describing his attitude/behavior, he's acting just like mine. He's actually quite social.

The kids bring in feeder fish sometimes and he's fun to watch. The first time we gave him one he stuffed it in his mouth (the feeder fish was big) and after 5 minutes only the tail was still hanging out. Well...there is also a pinfish and a grunt in the tank...the students said it wasn't fair the other fish didn't get a chance so we dropped in another feeder. The snapper grabbed THAT one too!! So, at this point he had a tail out of his mouth, and half of another fish hanging out of his mouth...SO...we tried ONE more?!! That freaking pig bully snapper got THAT one in his mouth TOO!! I was sure we were going to kill him! He was swimming around with 3 fish hanging out of his mouth...I gave up.

...but I love that Snapper (even better with lemon and garlic ;) )

...and I can't even comment on the gator and noles posts above. I'm still in denial. I'm calling in sick for the week if the Bucs play like they did last week...too much sorrow this weekend! :(

Very cool, I hope we get to see some more pics when he gets bigger. I like seeing livestock in tanks besides what the LFS usually carries.

it is definatly a lutjanid. and from the looks of it, it is probably a Lut. griseus like Ichthy said, but good find, they really are a cool looking fish at that size.
